And that is a picture of said stand off. Where we have an officer with a magazine in backwards, which would damned near require a hammer to pull off.
At least she seems to have trigger discipline? That’s all I got.
And she’s not going to be shooting anyone either, so no blue on blue!

How did she even get the bolt to close? The more I think about it, the more my head hurts, though admittedly I haven’t ever personally tried shoving in a cartridge backwards, I wouldn’t think it would work.
Edit: Apparently there was once a youtube video showing how it could be done, but now it’s taken down. My mind still can’t get around how you could chamber a round (or not chamber as the case would be).
Edit2: Ah, it seems she might have a jungle style double mag going on, which explains why the mag is so huge and how it could be curved the wrong way. I’m going with that to save my sanity.

So the wife and I went to visit my new gun. We both sent a few rounds downrange through it. I love this pistol. It has a long DAO pull but it is as smooth as silk. The trigger pull does not at all affect the sight picture. The final is often surprising but I don’t mind that. After 50 rounds I was able to put five rounds into a 2 inch circle in the center of a #6 target. It does shoot high and left with the sights set out of the box. But I really am not worried about that. Not yet at least.
I didn’t use the 7 round mag that came with it. Instead I was using the 8 round mag that I purchased. $35.99 for a fucking clip. But that’s Kahr for you. The clip is a beast to load after the fourth round. But since I’m early into the break in period, I have hopes that it will loosen up a bit eventually. Others have complained that the top of the mag can be rough and cut your thumb. That doesn’t seem to be an issue anymore. For me the only issue was a really stiff spring. But hey, better a stiff spring than a soft one.
I was sad that I had to leave my baby at the range. My waiting period is up on Thursday.
The pistol is perfect in my hand. The weight is just right. My wife was surprised that it had a little snap. But she’s used to a GP100 and the weight is very different. Altogether a fine day at the range.

BTW I want to thank Houngan who somewhere, upthread, suggested Khar. Thanks man.

Welcome. Get used to the gun and then get the sights fixed, it’s too accurate not to have a decent zero on it.

Zimmerman’s girlfriend recanted her story, says that he never threatened her with a weapon.

Looks like a shooting at Arapahoe High School but with only two injuries; shooter is dead. Apparently was looking for a teacher.
Still can’t believe we got nowhere with all the momentum that built up last year. It’s amazing how effective throwing a tantrum can be in getting your way. Anyway, here’s an article that sounds quite interesting and contradicts some of the claims I remember from upthread.
They really need to arm all the students.

FWIW, I’ve had to use a firearm in self defense against a bear in the house, but the culture of where I lived was very different than that of a major urban area.
If there’s a reasonable chance of a dangerous animal entering your home and animal control services being too far away to help, I can understand the desire to be armed. On the other hand, what was the bear doing that you had to shoot it instead of, say, closing a few doors and calling someone to tranq it?

No running water, no electricity, no phone…miles to the nearest neighbor, middle of the night, etc. Rural areas still exist and it’s not wise to putter around with large predators that show signs of aggression. We had a lot of bears, but this one was not docile like the rest.
The super-rural life is one that is probably hard to imagine for many Americans. Even with a phone SO response would have been hours, as at that time all the SOs went off duty at 0300, and nearest one to my house was 40 miles away, anyhow. I have also been stalked by a mountain lion, but since I knew it was there, it must not have been hungry. : )
EDIT: Also, log cabin interior with few doors. Have you ever lived anywhere remote?

I don’t think anyone has ever argued that firearm ownership doesn’t increase suicide by firearm, or that attempted suicide by firearm is much more likely to succeed. QED, really. I think that article is more of an admission that gun control arguments about crime tend to fall apart when you bring in facts, so let’s talk about suicide. The good thing is that you can choose not to own a firearm, thus decreasing your risk of suicide. What you can’t do is choose not to be attacked, home invaded, raped, etc.
I have questions about, does gun ownership increase overall suicide rates? Or does it simply change the method? I imagine they make suicide attempts far more successful, but even then I believe individuals should have the right to end their life (assuming their mentally healthy).

I would think that someone that really wants to kill themself will find a way. That’s part of the waiting period in states that have one. Of course there are other reasons. Suicide is often a cry for help or a spur of the moment thing. As well there is always the consideration of pain involved. Even a gun doesn’t guarantee an instant result, though. I’ll spare you pictures of people who literally shot off their faces with a shotgun and lived. But if you’re really curious you can find them online. People have also shot themselves in the head and had a smaller caliber bullet follow the curve of the skull and exit the other side without killing them.
So guns may be a method of choice for some people, sure. But jumping off of a really tall building is guaranteed to work. It’s hard to make a serious conclusion when you’re talking about someone that is in a lot of pain, mental or physical. I’m sure that someone will show up here with a graph of some kind and prove me wrong.

I have that eotech myself, thing to remember about it is that it has a single lever quick release. If the weapon is stored with the eotech unattached it would be VERY easy to install it backwards in the rush to get set up.
Gun shot wounds are never pretty, and anything to the head is going to be awful.

One of my neighbors pulled out into the middle of an intersection in an attempted suicide. Death by car I suppose. Of course the other drivers swerved to avoid her, and end up running into everything but her car. The incident put four or five people in the hospital while she walked away unscathed.
She ended up using a gun the next time around.
I’m close to my step-sisters family, she comes from an old Japanese clan and I learned their stories from an early age. That probably explains my attitudes on suicide, I believe it can be an understandable and even honorable option. That’s assuming the person is mentally healthy and capable of making that kind of awful choice though.
For those who have been personally affected by suicide, I also know that pain and you have my utmost sympathy.

SUCCESSFUL rates, yes. However, the highest rates for attempted suicide are in the non-gun Northeast. Suicide is skewed towards white men of young adult to middle age.
