The company the so-called conservatives kept reflects on them. They were fine sitting alongside these people for years even if it took extreme levels now for them to start inching away.
I’m not calling them alt-right anymore. There is nothing alternative about them, politically. These are hate groups.
I’m talking about this guy. Maybe it’s true that Kevin McCarthy, the GOP minority leader of the House, isn’t a conservative, but I think that would be news to him and to the people who voted for him.

But they self identify as conservatives so it’s a pretty easy label to use. If conservatives en masse actually denounce Trumpism then maybe it’s worth distinguishing them.
Not that I particularly want to go down this rabbit hole or that I particularly agree with it, but isn’t the shit on 4 and 8chan (and other sites) protected speech? There are no domestic terrorism laws - as such, wouldn’t we need Congress to write legislation allowing something like that to happen? (I honestly don’t know.)

Yes, it is. I don’t think the government can shut it down.
But just like i don’t mind if someone punches a Nazi, even though it’s illegal, i wouldn’t mind if the jester took down 8chan.
Reportedly, the FBI was alerted and investigating his manifesto posted on 8chan in the minutes before the shooting started, but there weren’t enough specific details for them to ID the exact location and stop him before the shooting started. They are monitoring the posts in these forums in real-time, but often even that is not enough.
I’m having a hard time imagining what kind of attack it’s going to take for Congress to do something about white nationalist terrorism (we know Republicans won’t do anything on guns.)
To his credit, here’s a statement from Ted Cruz. To my knowledge this is the strongest statement from any Republican:

The dude who shot up Dayton did so with a semi automatic rifle, with multiple hundred round drum magazines.
Because that’s totally a thing that normal people might need for a legal act.
No white nationalist terror will ever get anything done. It’s going to take a bunch of leftists or minority crazies getting radicalized and shooting up CPAC or the local VFW or magachurch. Once conservatives start bleeding, we might see some tunes changing.
Sadly, that might the best way to see action.
