At this point, I’d cheer the cops for shooting this man.

Haha, someone thinks a gun control measure will actually get votes.
That’s not how it works these days. The NRA hasn’t even really started whipping votes.
There will be no new weapons ban.

It was summer than too, so just some Back to School product. The only issue here is where they put the sign, but this wasn’t due to the last two shootings. It was some employees idea of a joke a couple of years ago. It’s not fake though.

I think I floated this last year but I really think the US needs to look into developing some kind of a weapons ratings board and create legislation based on those ratings (A/B/C whatever) rather than get into the whole technical definition of “what is an assault weapon”. Feels like the only way we’ll make some progress on legislation that makes sense.
Gun manufacturers would love that. Regulatory capture is much easier if you only need to have influence over a small board with power, instead of every member of congress.

There’s a real simple bright line we could use: ban all semi-automatic firearms. Anything that automatically reloads after a shot and is ready to fire again on the press of a trigger without further action is a significantly higher level of firepower than firearms that require an action to load such pump/lever/bolt-action weapons, or revolvers.
That would leave hunting rifles, shotguns, and revolvers to be legal but regulated as per the second Amendment.

You’d likely have a very hard time banning semi-automatic pistols, although I agree that a ban on all semi-automatic weapons is a clear line, and would in fact reduce gun violence greatly.
The NZ laws have pretty clear lines:
Firearms in New Zealand fall into one of four categories:
-
Pistols are firearms shorter than 762 mm (30 in).
-
Restricted weapons include machine guns, selective-fire assault rifles, grenades and rocket launchers.
-
Military-style semi-automatics (MSSAs) include semi-automatic rifles and shotguns that have any of the following components:
-
A Category firearms are those that do not fall into any other category, and are the vast majority of legally-owned firearms in New Zealand.
The “military style” features are arbitrary, sure, but they’re explicit.
In Missouri some guy was walking around Walmart with a rifle and body armor and an off-duty firefighter detained him at gunpoint while the police arrived. Then he was arrested for some unknown reason. The comments section in the Fox News article are like a self parody. Nobody knows whether to defend the guy walking around with a gun or praise the guy who held him up at gunpoint for “saving lives”. I am not clear about what the police can charge him with since it’s not illegal in Missouri to walk around Walmart with a rifle and body armor. Also, the Walmart employees pulled the fire alarm to get everyone out, which probably just made everybody panic even more. It’s like a beautiful satire on why open carry is totally fucking stupid.
I think there is some evidence he was deliberately trying to provoke a reaction / scare people. He was reportedly videoing their reactions with a cell phone. I imagine he will be charged with something like maliciously causing a panic.
It doesn’t sound like he was breaking any laws since in that state you can carry around that gun so long as you aren’t pointing it anybody. I assume this guy is a total asshat, but if they don’t want people walking around making others nervous about the scary weapon they’re carrying around maybe some laws should be written so you can’t do that.
Is this clown the hero we’ve been looking for all along?
Unlike open carry, this is actually against Walmart customer policy and they will ask you to leave.
“Bring your semi-automatic weapons, but please, leave your service dogs and cell phones at home.”
Now that’s what I call masculinity!
