Dang video games.

Folks keep saying that we need more guns so that people can defend themselves… So maybe we should just start planning all gun owners for these shootings.

The good guys with guns aren’t doing their job and stopping these guys.

It’s not a mass shooting it’s a Freedom Shooting!

TEXAS! YEAH!

The death toll from yesterday’s mass shooting has risen again.

You know what’s truly terrifying? Mass shootings have become so common we’ve only had a couple posts here about this. Two years ago this would have garnered hundreds if not more.

I just don’t know what to say anymore. White guy killing people down a hwy, shooting a literal baby. So the next step is talk about mental illness… good guys with guns even though the first exchange started with a good guy and a gun. Texas just loosened their laws, and the GOP still embraces the NRA, including the president. Nothing… changes. Now we have monthly shootings.

It’s them vidya games, I’m telling yuh.

Trump gonna go pose with the dead and wounded in the hospital to do another thumbs up? or just gonna ignore this one?

Same. It’s the new normal. People will continue to go on mass murdering sprees, America will continue to do nothing about it.

Sandy Hook didn’t change anything, don’t see why seven more dead or a baby shot in the face will change anyone’s mind, aside from those directly effected. That’s the world I find myself living in, along with Donald fucking Trump squatting in the White House.

I was struck by this repeating soundbite from that NPR report.

“also safeguarding Second Amendment rights are needed”

“while protecting Second Amendment rights”

“protect our Second Amendment.”

Thoughts and prayers, but let’s not forget our priorities!

Again, 50,000 proud gun owners waving AR-15s and rainbow flags on the steps of a state capital would lift the fog and mysteriously reveal to many a Constitution thumping conservative desires for limits on gun ownership they never knew they had in them.

Or just a handful of Black Panthers.

Some word on possible motivation for the Odessa shooting spree:

Seven people were killed and 22 others were wounded when 36-year-old Seth Ator began randomly spraying the roads with bullets after getting pulled over for failing to use his signal, police said.

“The reason that person was [ultimately] stopped was because of a Midland police officer and an Odessa police officer. They rammed his car, stopped him and when he got out, they shot him,” he said.

The shooter had been fired from his trucking job hours before he began his killing rampage, the New York Times reported, citing interviews with officials. Authorities say they believe he acted alone but have not yet determined a motive.

The CNN article also has a bit about the increase in mass shootings in recent years:

Number of active shooting incidents increasing

More than 40 people have died in the four shootings across Texas, Ohio and California since July. It’s part of a trend the FBI says is getting worse each year.

“If you look at the numbers, we’re looking at an active shooter every other week in this country,” Combs said.

The agency has conducted a study on all active shooters – who they define as “an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area” – between 2000 and 2018 and found the numbers keep increasing.

And of course, I think we’re all aware:

This latest shooting took place hours after a series of firearms laws that loosen gun restrictions went into effect in Texas. Included in that list are laws which will allow weapons on school grounds, apartments and places of worship.

I saw Trump on the news. His new response is “well, it could have been worse”. Truly inspiring.

Beto memes himself for a cause.

I think Sandy Hook did change something though. It showed the GOP that they could stand on the corpses of kids, and still not have to worry about any kind of voter backlash for their lack of action on gun control.

What has followed is just the logical consequences of that realization.

This is currently a breaking story about a 14 year old who shot and killed five people in his family in Alabama.

15 Senate Democrats voted against gun control after Sandy Hook. We are complicit.

against what gun control?
