Yeah, this country and the gun culture here is just bizarre. I understand wanting it for critter control like you mention, and there are people in rural areas who live near potentially dangerous wildlife. I also understand if someone feels the need to have a firearm at home, just in case. But you’re absolutely right, you don’t need large capacity magazines or military grade weaponry for either of those. It’s pure fetishizement.

I’ve never held anything more powerful than a BB gun. My cousin had one, and one day we were in front of his house playing with it and I shot the back window to our station wagon out.
I’ve never fired a weapon of any kind. I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea, it’s just never come up.
It’s about concealed/open carry laws, if I understand it correctly. Several cases have come up where people are challenging local or state laws that require you to prove a specific need in order to get a carry permit. The challengers view this as a violation of 2nd Amendment rights.

Yes, probably.
And fuck these assholes in particular. Death cult gun fetishists.
Open fucking carry should be abolished everywhere. It’s an abomination. Calling it third world shit is being generous,.

I loved shooting at targets as a kid. Actual targets or popcans filled with water. We had a couple of .22s at home. I grew up on the farm of course. Target shooting is a heck of a lot of fun. If only everyone could be responsible with guns and not, you know, kill people.

This seems correct to me. It’s why you have to get a permit for it in nearly every state.
If a state wants to waive that permit, that’s a decision the state can make, but it’s sure as hell not innate.
Precedent is assuredly that you have no right to carry, but who knows what the SCOTUS will decide if it goes to them.
Edit:
The majority opinion also states “we can find no general right to carry arms into the public square for self-defense.” The majority further argued that the second amendment applies to the “defense of hearth and home” and “the power of the government to regulate carrying arms in the public square does not infringe in any way on the right of an individual to defend his home or business.”

Even in the wild west, lots of places didn’t let you open carry weapons in public.

I’d be willing to bet that the current Supreme Court will rule that everyone can carry a concealed weapon anywhere in public they want. Wildcard is private businesses. Since being against guns isn’t really a religious thing they may say that private businesses must allow concealed carry as well.

State Senator Obama apparently ran our Federal government after 9/11.
I guess, I have more issues with the guy than I thought.
Arabs are genetically prone to terrorism dontcha know. Now, our natural born Atlanta shooter, he was just having a “bad day.”

Dude, after 4 years of Trump my sarcasm meter drunk itself into a coma. Irony is in the witness protection program, and satire had an existential crisis and committed suicide.
The Onion changed business models and are now Monkeys Paw Prophets.
Eugene Robinson screams into the void.
We all know what instruments snuffed out 18 innocent lives in two mass shootings within the space of a week. We all know what tools Americans used to kill more than 43,000 people, whether others or themselves, last year. The answer is obvious. We just refuse to do anything about it.
The problem is that the nation is cursed with an absurdly and tragically vast oversupply of guns. And, as a society, we refuse to even talk about the kind of comprehensive disarmament that could prevent the next massacre by someone full of entitlement and rage, the next drive-by killing by a homicidal drug dealer or the next gun suicide by someone in unbearable pain from depression. We would rather live with the carnage than seriously try to end it.
The Second Amendment protects a right — but it does not impose an obligation to own guns, or to have our lives ruled by them. I suppose there could be some deadly rampage so shocking that we collectively decide to join the rest of the civilized world and disarm. But after Newtown? After Las Vegas? I can’t imagine how horrible the epiphany would have to be.

There is no mass murder shocking enough that would get enough popular support behind a gun takeback to force Congress to do it. Republicans are 100% all in on guns and have accepted any body count necessary to preserve freedom.
The only thing that I think could change their minds is if black gun ownership and public carry became a major push.
But of course white cops will see to it that black people openly carrying guns legally is perceived to be a great personal risk.

Covid killed over half a million Americans, and the GOP pretended it wasn’t a big deal.
ShivaX

Correct. If lots of black people started carrying, cops would just shoot them more.
And then people would just say “well, he had a gun…”
Meanwhile, if I grab my long gun and go grocery shopping and the cops or the store so much as talk to me, I could probably start pulling in 6 figures on Fox News and the conservative talking circuit.
