Alpha Protocol

I tried and tried but could not pass that level. As a result I’ve never finished the game.

That’s the only level I had trouble with in the whole game, I think it took me about 10 tries to beat it.

I’m just weak and I lack discipline. :D

Listen to Brian, this is not hyperbole.

I alway just cheese that level. There is a spot by the big rock where trees block the helicopter’s line of fire but not its line of sight… So its missiles hit the tree tops and explode, damaging the helicopter. Basically you just stand there and it blows itself up.

The gameplay is by far the weakest part of AP. Put it on the easiest difficulty, max out your pistol and enjoy the rest of it.

At least that’s how I remember it.

He truly is one of the finest characters I’ve ever encountered in a video game. Period.

You’re all right, Brian. Not like Chen. Not like Chen at all.

the feels.

Man, My heart skipped in the hopes of hearing of a sequel…

I had to click on this seeing it pop up again and, looking at my last post from 2014, I think I was a bit harsh. I replayed since then and I’ve got to say, adshole Thorton is the way to go. I don’t generally like villlain playthrough because they’re so rarely done well - going dark side in KotOR or the Fallouts is just cartoonishly over the top / but in this game, it’s satisfying to be a more Jack Bauer-like, ends justify the means type, more renegade in Mass Effect than anything else.

I love that guy on Brooklynn Nine Nine and The League.

I also restarted the game as Asshole Thorton (after being a Bourne-like professional the first time) and wow, yeah, it is joyously hilarious.

Shotgun/toughness jerk Thorton = win. Oh yah? BLAM.

This is one of those games, that if you invest enough time for the admittedly weird/clunky interface to become second nature, just gets better and better the more times you play it. Your first run is really just getting used to all the quirks of the interface, the 2nd run will be much more fun, and really for me, my 3rd run was the best.

It’s certainly a game that requires some investment to get the most out of, but in my opinion is worth it. There really isn’t anything quite like it. It’s one of those games that promises a different experience depending on how you approach it, and to me it delivers that, at least twice. The difference between the stealth/pistol approach, and the more in your face options is about as different as it gets.

One of those games I replayed a surprising number of times, warts and all.

I felt so satisfied by the whole ending sequence for this game, including the ending itself. It really felt like it came about due to my choices as a player.

This is a great game, but on my second play-through I tried playing it on the harder difficulty and while it was generally fine, I hit a road block with the protect-the-vip mission. I couldn’t keep him alive.

I hate protect missions.

I need to play this again. I have great memories. i do remember my second playthrough I played as “The cleaner” Nobody got out alive :) It was very fun that the game responded to that.

Yeah escort missions are always bad. Why designers bother with them I have no idea.

Because ICO.

@wumpus : How are the ‘views’ calculated for these old threads? Because 234.6k seems extreme for a pre-Discourse thread, even if Alpha Protocol was is such a great game.
