I got the update as well. Any clues?
No clues that I’m aware of, but I’m guessing it’s the “official” patch from months ago.
Is the game supposed to spin me around like crazy if I’m moving the mouse and my hard drive hitches for a moment? I’ve never seen a game do this before.

It’s not really “Supposed” to, but that’s a known bug. I get it too, and it’s annoying as all hell.

There are 9 blackmail emails total; 3 for each hub city, and never more than 1 per mission. The one in the CIA HQ is definitely the easiest one to get, in addition to all the other incentives to do that mission early. When you find these you’ll get a message that you found something, but nothing appears in inventory, or in your Intel files on Halbech; this is because Mike (instantly) forwards the incriminating emails to himself, so check your email the next time you’re in a safehouse and it will appear as an email forwarded to Mike, by Mike.
I just wanted to stress the importance of this advice. I completely screwed myself financially in my first game, because I bought intermediate armors (multiple times - OMG, the horror of that wasted money!), which you can only sell back for a tiny fraction of what you pay.
I also kept dumpsters worth of mods that I wasn’t using. With the exception of consumables like ammo/grenades, etc, I don’t think you can have more than one of any item, so finding a mod that you already own means you get nothing.

Ok, I am level 12 and finished with Russia and currently in Rome. I have found so far that melee is extremely overpowered, especially when you level it up. Non-boss enemies can be dispatched in hordes by running around like an idiot meleeing them one by one. I also have Stealth leveled rather high, so I can get the drop on them as well.
My build is such: Stealth is the primary skill I level up, then pistol, melee, and sabotage. Also starting to throw a few points in ‘health’ and Assault Rifles. Sub-machine guns are worthless to level up, or even use for that matter, as far as I have heard (several sources).
Cannot wait to replay it. The dialog mini-game is addictive, and I am interested in replaying it while answering and asking questions completely differently from how I did this time.

ALPHA PROTOCOL
================================================== ========================
This file contains the log of the fixes and changes made to Alpha Protocol
since its initial release.
VERSION 1.1
- To resolve activation issues, PC copy protection has been removed.
- In Moscow during the assault of Brayko’s Mansion, the player could get
into a situation where a door would not be openable preventing progression
through the rest of the level. This has been fixed.
- In Taipei, during the Stop the Assassination mission, the user can fall
out of the world if they reload the “Exit Gardens” checkpoint. There was
also a problem where if the player backtracked, part of the level might
not load in properly. This has also been fixed.
- In the same mission, a problem with subtitles was corrected.
- In the museum in Rome, the game could crash when using Focused Aim to
kill the NPC holding Madison in the elevator.
- Bosses could get stuck in an accelerated mode when Fury wears off.
- Chainsot was exploitable to slow time and get critical headshots without
consuming its cooldown.
Found this page for comprehensive .ini tweaks, etc (fix mouse, video, etc):

BEFORE, you do any of this make a NEW FOLDER, called Backups (or something) put a COPY of all the files you are editing FIRST before you edit them. NO don’t argue with me, just do it!

I think my patch notes were more along:
Added new random crashes.
Increased loadtimes by 5000%.
Added new random lockups during loads for added excitement of not knowing if its just taking forever or its crashed!
Somewhere in this thread there are tweaks which help improve AP’s performance, including that issue.
Also somewhere in this thread, I told myself to go apply those tweaks. I forgot about them, oops.
I recently woke up in a mysterious medical facility. I had to escape just to make these posts.

Look out for zombies then
Albert Woo pointed out that AP is 7.50 (and -20% with their HOHOHO discount) at D2D in the bargain thread, in case someone missed it.

I have to say, this is one game that I would’ve completely ignored if it wasn’t for these boards. So thanks for hyping this up!
While the stealth and shooting gameplay are a bit mediocre, combined with the skill system and branching dialogs, the combination ends up being a great game.

Finished my first play through yesterday, and I have to say it was a wonderful ride, although some of the end game boss fights REALLY got on my nerves.
I pretty much made friends with everybody, and didn’t execute anyone except for the two main culprits right at the end. Romanced with three different chicks, but unfortunately all of them ended up either dead or missing by the end of the game. Oh well, something to improve for the second play through on Veteran.
For my second game, I’m trying to do what I’ve dubbed the “Batman” play through, i.e. only use unarmed combat, stealth and gadgets, and try to make every takedown non-lethal. Although, I guess some of the end bosses can only be reached by ranged combat. I’ll have to see what I can do with those.

Batman can use darts, right?..Sorry, I meant BatDarts.
Sigh … just bought this game on the Steam sale and I am already stuck in the tutorial. Whoever designed the computer hacking game needs their head examined. It is driving me insane and I can not get past it. I am at the point of just deleting this piece of shit.
It gets better, it really does. At some point your brain just clicks and you’ll pick the patterns out of the grid.

If you head back a ways in this very thread you’ll see me saying the same thing about the hacking. Then I picked it as one of my two GOTY. So yeah, if you’re still at the point where you listen to advice - stick with it.
