Altered Carbon - Netflix, cyberpunk

I’ve watched the first five episodes. This is really good.

Really liked the first episode. Kind of got tired explaining it to the SO who was a bit lost though, and some of the acting was less than good.

Things from the book kept popping into my head at opportune moments. Meths for instance. I read the books so long ago I more intuited the answer there but I doubt I would have figured it out the first episode without having read them.

Ep 5. I am not sure if it’s the acting, or the writing that’s the problem. Looks pretty thought. As for the storyline, won’t be able to pass judgement until I see the end.

Three episodes in and I love it so much. It is like Cyberpunk 2077: The Show, or how I imagine it at least.

I loved Blade Runner 2049 but I actually have more fun with this. Kinnaman is awesome.

Oh and I wish flashbacks were more extensive since I like Wei Shen too. Why is he not in credits though?

I appreciate that the show doesn’t spend a lot of time on exposition, and there are quite a few important details you can easily miss. I do wonder, though, how this looks for someone who didn’t read the books, or even someone new to cyberpunk in general.

I have watched the first 4 or 5 episodes and I am enjoying this. I haven’t read the books, and there are a few things I’ve had questions about here and there although nothing major. I can’t think of anything. Ok I just thought of something and it’s maybe major:

When Falconer is teaching the Envoy to take control of the construct, is there something about the implants or enhancements they possess that makes this possible?

The AI poker game made me wonder about something but I can’t recall what. Outside of that I don’t feel like I have trouble understanding stuff in the world. I obviously can’t speak to which characters have been changed or mushed together.

Your question is not addressed in the books, because envoys didn’t do this sort of stuff, and envoys are not freedom fighters. It’s some sort of mind over body thing. They kinda like House Atreides.

I watched the first couple of episodes. Not bad, very atmospheric. I like Poe.

So Poe is an AI hologram, right? He disappears and reappears all the time like one. But in one episode he physically hands a letter to the main character. Space magic?

You’re concerned about hologram Poe handing someone a letter? Hell, when he is first introduced he starts handing out lead. Now thats space magic!

I’m liking this a lot.

Yeah, episode three starts rocking. Its really an awesome cinematic experience so far.

if you are liking it, best stop somewhere around episode 8 or 9.

Just finished. I loved it for the most part.
Spoiler of ending:

The reveal of Rei being the ultimate antagonist is the only thing I am not sure about. I like it in theory, but the execution was not quite perfect. Maybe I need to rewatch it.
Poe’s destruction saddened me. I hope he has a copy somewhere although the ending didn’t look that way. He was so great.

Such lavish production values for a TV, this gives me hope that Witcher could look on par with Game of Thrones.
I hope they make season 2 and Kinnaman is back.

If they base further seasons on the books there’s no way they’ll cast the same person as Kovacs going forward. The sleeve that Kinnaman’s portraying was only used in that story.

Yeah I figured from the ending, but damn I like him so much.

Purfoy sure is into going “Full Montey”.

Yeah a few episodes could rate as porno. Was the book that graphic?

You have no idea.

Fantastic series with a bit of a weak ending, because it all felt so “infodumpy” to me. I have not read the book so how accurate is the overall story?

There was a lot I liked, Poe was great as many have already said, but I also liked Purfoy and Kinnaman and a bunch of the others. Really sad it is already over.

As others have said, the production values are incredible for a series.
