Amazon Original Pilots 2015 - The Patriot is great

Oh, cool.

Hurray! I keep recommending it to people, but I sense resistance. I think its name isn’t doing it any favours.

Yeah, the name makes it sound like an action-packed, mildly jingoistic USA network production.

I’ve only seen the first three episodes of the second season, but can still really highly recommend this series. Great stuff.

I was a bit worried after the first, but the second episode is amazing.

Season 2 is pretty fantastic, IMO. Binged it earlier this week. Also bought the soundtrack for both seasons. (Dorman did the majority of the music, but there’s other stuff too. No Beastie Boys, sadly.)

Yeah, I’ve really been digging this season’s soundtrack.

Finished. This season was… pretty good.

The deadpan, the flashback stories, the cinematography, the weird-ass jargon for the intelligence oversight committee and all the Gil-bellowing Vannis-Bougeaurd piping.

Ep 6 opening was interesting. 2 minute mark, after the opening song.

So you see John facing you. He’s doing that stare where he’s piercing the fourth wall. You empathize with him. Kinda, sorta. You don’t have PTSD I assume. Then it shifts and you no longer see John, you see the little girl. And you realize that’s what John’s looking at, he wasn’t staring at us. Then it goes back to John and ahhhhhhhh ok so you are wondering what he was thinking of when he was staring at the girl.

I just stumbled across this at random - I’m on the 2nd episode. Oh my God it’s fantastic. Sublime. One of the best shows I’ve seen all year. It’s had me in fits of laughter. Why isn’t this generating more buzz?

It got a decent number of reviews and rating on Amazon, as well as a second season. I certainly hope there is enough buzz for Amazon to give it a 3rd season.

I really liked the second season, especially the bit at the end with the … fingers. Some nice misdirection there.

I didn’t appreciate the scene in the men’s bathroom where the camera gave us some great close up shots of man junk, and then dumped sub-titles over said junk, so if I wanted to hear what these French guys were saying, I had to stare right into … you know, junk. That was … not ideal, LOL.

This is some superb stuff. I just finished episode 3 of season 2. Wow. Thanks to all here who recommended this, I never would have watched it, I find Amazon Prime to be chock full of rubbish sadly so this would have flown well under the radar…

Because you all suck. Oh wait, I didn’t post how much I liked S2 either. Well I did. I loved it. One of the best things I watched all year. Not as sublime as the first season but damn that was a high bar to try and over come.

To make up for it we got even more Townes Van Zandt, so that was cool.

I actually think the second season hits higher highs than the first, while not being as consistently amazing, but that could just be the in-jokes and callbacks maturing, kind of like how Arrested Development gets better the more you watch it. There’s also something really powerful about John’s, not quite stoicism, but total disregard for his own physical wellbeing at least. He’s pretty much Job by the end of the season.

Glad I saw this thread I love this show! Fantastic.

Awesome! I just picked up the soundtracks for Season 1 and 2. Really liked both of them as well.

So it seems Patriot is now cancelled. I just finished binging it, and I’m kind of blown away. I found the Wes Anderson style leanings a little ‘too much’ at first, but the way the plot threads are woven is pretty incredible. I know the whole ‘golden age of TV’ thing is a meme at this point, but the fact that a show this great can fly under the radar of greater television puts some significant punctuation on that.

Season 1 seemed really close to the HBO show Barry as far as structure, but season 2 is where the show really found footing and became something really special. I’m glad it didn’t end on a super cliffhanger, but I’ll miss this show nonetheless. Do check it out if you haven’t yet.

God dammit. This is terrible news. Favorite show of the past few years.

Late to the party but I agree that season two really came together nicely. I enjoyed season one, I loved season two. Having said that, I felt like it ended in a really good place where I don’t feel narratively cheated by there not being a third season.

As time goes by, I’m getting more comfortable with the idea that, for as much as I would have loved a third season, the show ended perfectly. This show is super underrated, and will probably go down as a top 5 of all time for me.
