Cool article, thanks. As one of those folks who started fiddling with computer tech back in the mainframe era, learning Fortran on punchcards (and just as quickly trying to forget the experience), and someone who has owned many different types of small computer over the years, I like this sort of techno-nostalgia.

Though in reality, I shudder at the thought of the 80s in particular, when standards, compatibility, connectors, OSs, and all that were in total flux.
