While losing your phone can be stressful, Android Device Manager can help you keep your data from ending up in the wrong hands. If your phone can’t be recovered, or has been stolen, you can quickly and securely erase all of the data on your device.
Availability and getting started
This service is now available on devices running Android 2.2 or above; to use it, you also will need to be signed into your Google Account. There will also be an Android app to allow you to easily find and manage your devices. Stay tuned!
Seems like no matter what I do, I can’t get this to work on my phone (HTC One V). I’ve tried checking for updates, restarts, double-checking settings…nothing gets my location to show up. I also can’t ring the phone (despite the fact I get a “Device was rung” message). I can at least get the Erase Device button to light up when I toggle that setting, but nothing makes the other things work. My wife’s phone (LG Optimus V) worked no issue whatsoever.
Of course I post that and figure it out. I’ve got two Gmail accounts registered with the phone, and apparently it only works with the second one I added, not the first.
