No, sorry, #7 is not making phones fatter so we could have more goddamn battery life instead of competing in the “whose phone most resembles a malnourished coke-addicted early-90s modeling waif” Olympics. Rounded corners come in at #8, just ahead of glass backs.

I use an Oukitel WP5… Weighs about a pound, but the battery lasts for days. 90 degree screen corners too. :) If you’re willing to go off brand, you can find just about any configuration in Android space you want.

Edit: And it was a clean Android install too… no uninstallable bloatware like on my ZTEs I had been using before.

Any chance that Google is gonna do some Black Friday thing for the Pixels?

They usually do.

But only the dark pixels in the lower left of the screen, where you barely see them.

Meh. Not sure if it’s different in other regions, but in Germany the Pixel 3a is the only one that has a discount going for it this week. Didn’t see anything for the 4a, 4a 5G or 5.

4a 5G seems to be £50 off various places here.

Don’t get me started on glass backs for phones. Makes them ridiculously slippery. And anyone with a brain puts them in some protective case anyway, so what’s the point?

I have no brain. I also don’t put plastic covers on my couch. Somewhat less likely to drop that one, of course, but it’s for similar reasons.

I put hard cases on my phones because I will invariably drop them many times. And the cases usually are easier to grip.

Nah, cases are for weirdo butterfingers. I can’t stand the extra size or weight.

If this is shade thrown at @inactive_user, then it is spot on because he knows he deserves it.

:-P

I wouldn’t need cases if phone makers weren’t in a race to find the most slippery materials possible to build a phone out of. The ceramic finish on my Essential phone makes it feel like trying to hold on to a wet bar of soap.

Guilty as charged, on all counts. Well, until I get a Trump Pardon™.

I have a Pixel 4XL. For the first 8 or 10 months, I used the Spigen case. Since the lockdown, I took off the case, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to one.

Phone manufacturers spend so much time and money on design; why cover it up (he says, tempting The Fates)?

I rocked a Nexus 4 sans case for two years, you cowards.

I’ve blown $400 on deductibles replacing shattered phones. I’ll wrap my future phones in four inches of kevlar if they ever make it see-through.

I’ll go in with you on a family size pack.

I’ve got a pixel 4a coming my way now, basically because I dropped my phone (which landed on a soft chair and then fell from there onto the floor) and now I get errors saying that there’s no sim card. Sometimes removing and re-inserting the sim card fixes it, sometimes not. I like the idea of not having a case but phones do tend to be super slippery when not in a case. I drop my phone a lot and I’ve never had one damaged while it was in a case. A car ran over my Moto G 5 and it came away unscathed. Since I removed the case on my G5 (about a year ago now because the case was falling apart) my phone now looks like it’s gone through a war zone.

Since my first smartphone in 2011, only had one drop ever (with someone else attempting to take a picture) that dented the frame.

Get a better grip folks
