I don’t know about all the new features but I generally like Android look and feel and enjoy it.

But those color schemes. Oh my god. I hate them so much. Good thing I’m sure it’s very customizable.

Those colors warm my litestep experimenting heart.

I’m into it. I like changing up my UI from time to time just for change’s sake.

Not a fan of the big quick settings buttons, and don’t care about colour schemes, so I’m not sure what I’m gaining from this update other than the privacy stuff (which is not nothing) and I suppose the sensible reversal of the Google Pay power button thing. .

Friends, I’ve got an odd problem I could use some help with. I downloaded a couple of new notification MP3 files today and put them in my notification folder. Oddly though, the system isn’t seeing them, as when I go to the notification sounds in the system settings, they’re not there. I’ve rebooted and restarted and so far nothing.

Any idea how I can do some sort of refresh or some such to have the phone see the new files? Thank you.

Okay nevermind, this is odd. When I downloaded the MP3 from the phone’s browser, and then moved it from the download folder to the notifications folder, it didn’t show up. When I plugged my phone into my PC and copied them from the PC to the notifications folder, they showed up. WTF.

Those huge buttons in the settings screenshots are stupid, and something I’ll also likely end up needing sooner or later. I hate both of these things.

Omg it has a notification light y’all. I miss those so much.

One of my first downloads for my S21 Ultra was a camera cutout LED notification light tool that flashes a ring around the cutout for notifs. Removing that LED is almost as dumb and shitty as removing SD cards, headphone jacks, and removeable batteries.

The lack of headphone jack and SD card have already bit me in the ass like half a dozen different ways in the last two months. Fuck this gorgeous, wildly overpriced camera masquerading as a smartphone that I’m 22 months in debt on :(

Ohhhh what’s that notification app please?

aodNotify – looks like they have specialized editions for Samsung and OnePlus specifically, plus a more general one that might work. In all cases, they do rely on OLED screen + some form of always-on-display functionality (as it’s just illuminating a ring of LEDs in a specific area of the screen on a scheduled timer). It contributes very modestly to extra battery drain, but if your existing AoD is pulling, say, 10%/day in your pocket, this probably isn’t moving it much past 11-12%.

Thank you!

Heh, I feel your pain. Sort of; I don’t use either of those features, but I do feel like my phone is a fancy media machine designed to permanently extract money from me. Though at least mine is paid for at this point–which of course means it’s obsolete!

Hear, hear.

I switched from an Xperia Compact to a Pixel 4a a few months ago. I’m overall pretty happy with the new device, BUT BOY do I miss the notification LED my old cellie had. It was such a helpful feature to see if something new has happened from afar (thanks to color coding: in which app) without having to pick up and check the phone.

I predict a Pixel 6 w/ Android 12 in my future.

Google flattened the pokemon ball!

Maaan my hands do not want another huge phone. This chonky Moto is already heavier than I’d like. 6.67"? Good god.

Hoping for a human-sized base P6.

Yeah, I’m loving the smaller size of my Pixel 5 after the 2XL. Definitely wouldn’t want to go bigger than a 2XL

I’m done with big phones too. My hands, which were never huge to begin with, are getting older and a phone is more difficult to use one-handed. No interest in a Popsocket or equivalent, so now I’m waiting around for someone to make a decent non-XL phone.

I really loved going small again with the Pixel 3, after two larger phones.

It is suboptimal for watching movies, and streaming games though off xcloud though. The bigger screen, I have to admit, did make viewing media much better. But better enough to have to deal with a big phone all the time? Probably not.

Yep. I am proactively managing my RSI levels given my hobbies and day job and history, and the big phone is just a huge problem. I’m just toughing this one out because I know I’ma want either a human-sized P6 or like a smaller P5a or similar when they roll out this fall.
