Is there a chat solution? Because google chat is not very good. It’s laggy at times and sharing the same screen as gmail requires extra clicks.
I guess I can convince the last few holdouts to go to signal.
(Previously, everything went to hangouts on one interface, including SMS’s which was nice)
Google seems not very great at the whole carrier business.
I got to the point where I entered my address and it says that they cannot service my area (while showing plenty of compatibility on the coverage map). The chat rep said that there are no “activation towers” here.
The next day I get an email offering to continue to check out…
I am not impressed.

I dunno man, Google Fi is pretty awesome for me.
Me too, but this isn’t the first report of the service having issues outside metro areas or whatever.
Yeah I’ve been happy with Fi, thought Mint mobile seems tempting as of late and a good alternative.
I still want my half price phone from Google though.

If nothing else, I think that Google Fi, along with other cheaper carriers, has forced some of the big players like Verizon to bring down their insanely high fees.
Back when I left Verizon for Google Fi, I think Verizon was charging me something like $140 a month or some such crap, for just a single cell with an unlimited data plan. I think that now they’re down closer to Google Fi prices.
Google Fi is incredible, especially if you travel abroad frequently (as I once did).
In my case the point was that they make it impossible to know if they’ll even offer you services until you get multiple steps deep (including a credit check), to just fail at the end.
Then send an automated email to encourage you to check out… When you literally cannot.
I’ve been on Mint for a couple of years now, and I’m happy with it. I keep my own data plan low, but my wife is maximum (fucking Facebook!). We lose signal in the mountains, but then I used to lose signal in the mountains on Verizon and on Sprint too.
Holy shit it’s actually here
So, very early thoughts:
Oh man it’s so fast and smooth. Yaaaaay!
Screen is gorgeous
Tall and skinny. Feel like I’ll end up liking this, right now I’m indifferent
Quite a bit lighter than chonkasaurus over here. That’s a relevant difference to me for sure
Migrating to a new handset has never been easier
New Android seems good? The gestures are very responsive
Overall: OMG NEW PHONE YOU GUYS YAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY
Please put that in a case, that’s one accident away from crack and crying
Gotta say I hate the trend towards tall skinny phones. With the gigantic camera warts they all seem to have, they end up crazy top heavy and very difficult to use one handed.
Mind, I’ve got the hand eye coordination of a dead cat, so I’m partly at fault there, but STILL!
Cases are for children and Communists.
Yeah I am pretty good at replacing phone screens by now, ask me why.
(Actually I figured out why, I have tiled floors, so they are more dangerous than a bouncy wooden floor)
Was chonkasaurus a Moto phone? I forget.
