Yeah, last year’s Moto G Power.

Which, again, as a $50 stopgap was well worth the price. But I can afford better than a $50 stopgap now, so here we are.

Ahh, yeah going from the IPS to OLED screen is probably visually stunning your eyes. :)

I mean, I loved the screen on my Pixel 3…

Oh thank goodness, you can get nav buttons back!

Settings - System - Gestures

Wait are those disabled by default?

Yeah Android 11 is all about gestures, baby!

UXers gonna UX, I guess, even if nobody wants them to.

Fuck that. Glad the phone I’m getting has physical versions of those keys because there’s one gesture I’ll happily give Android 11.

Yeah, first thing I turned on with my new phone. Fuck gesture shit.

I mean, turning the buttons back on works great.

I don’t recall turning the buttons on for Android 11.

Looks like they are off by default in Android 12 also.

The gesture navigation is fantastic. swiping from the right to go back at any time is way better than a back button.

I think you fail to understand the abject discombobulation that my hands are motivated by. I need discrete permanent emplacements that tell me exactly what they do to guide my actions, or I will be lost in a morass of confusion and accidentally closing out of my chat clients for eternity.

For you maybe. After a decade with Android I need that fucking button.

Oh wow thank you, I’d assumed they had completely removed that.

Going back is ok, but the “home” button is a lot faster than the half swipe up

I was going nuts. I switch apps constantly, and the delay on “swipe up & hold” was killing me.

But you guuuuuyyyyssss, it’s way better…

…for me to POOP ON

I actually preferred the gestures when they were introduced in two button mode in one of the versions. But then when they went full button-less and they made the back button on either edge of the screen. And you couldn’t turn off the right edge. So every time I went to pan a page to the left to see the right hand side of it when it wouldn’t fit, I went back instead. My brain cannot understand or handle why you’d ever swipe from the right to the left to go back from all the priming that I have from interfaces for years that the last thing you interacted with in an album scroll is on the left. So I could train myself to avoid panning on the left side and use that for the back button, but I can’t keep my thumb away from the right. Alas.

I’ve gotten used to two button navigation myself. Hope they don’t get rid of that.

There’s a separate Google Chat app too, it doesn’t need to be used through the Gmail app.
