Which is sadly a huge step back for Fi users. Hangouts being a combined SMS+Chat app was a killer feature.

When it wasn’t being stupid, but yeah. Unified chat streams were the best. RIP

This is the way.

Give it a few months. I’m sure Google will be launching a new chat app again in a few months that doesn’t improve anything or work like people want it to!

When I got my Pixel 4a xl there was no option for two button navigation and I can’t figure out how to get it back, sadly. I only ever saw it on my Pixel 3a XL as an option.

Did you see AdamB’s post a number of posts above? I just tried and I found that i could do it on my Pixel 4a. But I’ve gotten used to gestures so I think I’ll just leave it the way it is.

You sure it’s 2 button? The two options I see are 3 button and gestures and it’s neither of those.

Looks like you can hack it back on:

Oh perhaps not, sorry. I didn’t realize there was a difference between 2 and 3 button.

2 Button is the one where I couldn’t figure out how to take a screenshot anymore, which is why I switched to 3 button. The instructions on how to take a screenshot in 2 button interface never worked for me.

I need to take screenshots a lot, since I use my phone for work a lot.

2 button just seems wrong.

It was really nice actually. They switched my Pixel 3 to it by default when it first came out, and I got used to it really quick. It was great until they got rid of the screenshot option from the long-press power menu. I guess the theory is that the most important thing you have on your phone is your credit card information, so that’s the only thing that should be in the long-press power menu, not things like screenshot.

Yes! Gah I hated the take screenshot issue that popped up when they removed it from the power button menu with the Google pay credit card update. I had to learn the power button + volume down shortcut, but having to move my hands into an awkward position on the phone was a pain in the ass.

Weird-- I still see the screenshot option when I hold down the power button on my Pixel 3a XL. I even tested it.

By definition I’m running the current version of Android. Did they take it away and bring it back?

I have Google pay and automation stuff on mine. Dunno why it’s different.

Get a Moto phone. I just hold down 3 fingers on the screen for a second

Tapping power/vol down has been the screenshot trigger forever in Android. It’s pretty easy.

You nav button people are weird. Gestures 4 lyfe.

I’ve been on gestures since I got my Pixel 5 as part of my “Let’s give the Pixel Launcher a real go this time” drive, and while it’s working OKish, I still prefer nav buttons. Back is mostly fine, though it’s annoying when it interferes with a website’s own controls, but the multi-tasking gesture is way too fiddly and slow compared to pressing the button.

I’ve switched back to 3 buttons from gesture. Not worth the hassle. The screen I have is 20:9 so very little space is lost with the bottom for buttons and top for the status bar. Gesture on Android IMO is the another instance of me-too googleitus. “Oh oh oh iPhone is buttonless so we have to go buttonless too!!111” 🙄

I would love to have the buttons as well as the swipe right/left to page back/forward. Really would be useful for web browsing.

Well that’s a new fucking record for busting the absolute fuck out of my screen.
