Heads up, this little gadget I bought 3 years ago along with my Pixel 3 stopped working last week. So $26 and it only worked for 3 years? Pfffft. Ripoff. I can no longer output to my Aux port thanks to my Pixel 3 not having a headphone jack. I wonder if I should spend another $17 (price has gone down) on another one, or maybe I’ll be buying a Pixel 6 this fall, and maybe the Pixel 6 will have a headphone jack?

I find these are best. It plugs into you car aux port and your phone talks to it via Bluetooth.
Many years of hassle free and high quality audio, until I got a new car w Android Auto.

Friends, pre-orders for the Titan Pocket start tomorrow, 7 PM Pacific time!
Sorry, already got me a headphone jack on a brand new phone.
Not that I need it because I live in the year 2021, but hey, flaunt it if you got it, right?
This phone runs Android 11 I’ll have you know. It’s both modern AND classic.

So this thing doesn’t charge your phone at the same time? Why is connecting to your phone via bluetooth better than connecting through the USB-C port? And isn’t bluetooth a big battery drain on your phone?
The lighter thingy has two USB ports, so you can plug your charger into that one. I have something similar in my car.

I find bluetooth, especially over such a short distance very reliable. You don’t need to plug your phone in at all for short trips. I’ve also found USB C ports in Android phones not always the most reliable. They can get loosey goosey. You can plug in and charge with the 2nd USB port anytime you want.
Anyone else’s texts in the default app showing up with HUGE type suddenly? How do I change that. It’s not in the settings for the app so it may be a general setting.
EDIT: Ugh, never mind, I’m a silly man. Just pinch the screen inward, problem solved.

Hey, I didn’t know you could do that.
I was waiting to see the Pixel 6 and next Note (if they even make one) before retiring my trusty Note8. But last week the battery decided to become a Spicy Pillow, pushing off the entire back of the phone, and breaking all of the connection points on the rigid frame of its Otter Box case! I’d had that Note since (I think) early 2018, so I figured it was time for a new phone instead of repairs.
Finding anything in stock was rough. Verizon is the only carrier that can reach our house, so I went to the local Verizon store. They had a grand total of two Android phones in stock. The small Samsung folding phone (not that I wanted to pay $1800 for a Z Fold 3), and a rock-bottom Motorola something. They recommended I try Best Buy, which I did, and they had a few Galaxy 21 Ultras in stock. They only had navy blue left, which is fine because I like blue, and I was going to Otter Box it anyway. So suddenly I have Samsung’s current “flagship” phone.
Losing the headphone jack, storage for the S-pen, and the micro SD card suck. The processor upgrade is quite noticeable and nice, but I expected that by jumping four generations or so. The screen can be eye-searingly bright, but I assume my old screen started out less bright & lost strength over time. The Ultra supports 25w charging, but didn’t come with a charger, so that will probably go unused. Overall, I was perfectly happy with the Note8 still, and losing the physical features I listed makes this feel like a sidegrade at best. I guess that’s Phones in the Time of COVID.
Help, I need parental controls on a few android tablets!
Usual stuff, need restrict app purchases, manage screen time, allow/dosallow certain apps, etc, nothing too fancy.
Problem is I don’t want to have to reinstall and potentially re-purchase all the apps and have all their progress reset (mainly games - minecraft, runners, that sort of thing). At the moment the tablets are logged in with their mum’s credentials and I can’t find a way to add some controls that don’t boil down to creating a whole new restricted user profile or going full Google Family link. Both these options result the above undesirable ‘clean slate’ outcome.
This capability exists with native IOS tools, I have something like this set up on my son’s ipad using the in-built Screen Time controls - wife’s itunes credentials, but screen time, app access and app store access policies enforced locally.
Does anything like this exist on Android? Do I need to look 3rd party? Qustodio, Norton, Kaspereksy all have parental control apps and platforms, using their app as a the control point with a cloud control plane. Indeed they all seem quite feature rich as well, adding web filtering, etc, etc. Qustodio seemes popular, but it’s hard to know if that’s earned, or just robust marketing.
Any recommendations?
My messaging app on my pixel 3 must have gotten updated because suddenly it’s in a different font. It’s only subtly different but it makes a huge difference. It’s so much more pleasing to the eye.

One thing that made my Samsung s8 more pleasing to the eye, was figuring out it has been running at a lower resolution today for roughly 2 years.
Yep, a bunch of the google apps got facelifts recently. I noticed on my Pixel 3 that the clock app (alarms, timers, etc) was suddenly much nicer looking as well.
I know it’s only a small thing, and it’s going to sound really cheesy to most people, but the pleasure I get every time I look at my messaging app right now hits me like if I’m viewing a gorgeous vista or a beautiful sunset. I know that feeling will fade over time, as it always does as you get used to looking at something beautiful and it becomes routine, so I’m really savoring it right now.

Ar $600 and $900 respectively, the pricing is lower than one would have initially expected.
