Ah here it is. Thanks mono. I’ll give that gizmo a try.

I have the regular 6, and I would concur with your assessment of Android 12. The Google UI team missed wide right on this one.
Check out Niagara Launcher. I have found it to be a superior launcher, particularly for the taller Pixel phones. It can be operated with one hand. Plus you can download icon packs (I use one called Tigad) which are a million times more attractive than the stock icons, especially in 12.
Gestures are useable, once you develop the muscle memory. I didn’t think I would miss the face unlock from the 4XL, because the fingerprint unlock is definitely not the most user-friendly, but it’s not the gamebreaker for me that is for others. My favorite is still the rear sensor on the Essential PH-one.
There is a widget under the “Google” section that includes date and weather.
There are literally a hundred million free weather and/or time widgets on the Play store.
You can switch back to three-button navigation (because yes, the new swipe garbage is terrible) in settings.
Under Google! Of course. Thanks Icebear.
They’re mostly ad supported and/or terrible. At least that was my experience last time I tried a dozen or so a few years ago. I prefer the Google one. It’s ad free and hassle free.
Huh, do you have the 3 button option turned on?
I was trying to give their default arrangement a serious go, but yeah, I’m at work, I have a lot of documents on Whatsapp to sort through, and I couldn’t take it anymore, I switched to 3 button navigation.
I lasted two and a half hours! :)
On a more positive note about the Pixel 6 Pro: Gosh, this is a gorgeous screen. Everything is so much more crisp and bigger. Yes, I hate handling the bulk of this bigger phone, but I guess I’ll get used to it, and the advantages of this gorgeous screen can’t be denied.
All the paperwork I handle on the phone daily is bigger and crisper and much easier to read now.
I’m actually mostly liking A12. I like the bigger clock on the lock screen- my phone has one of those always-on screens (are they all like this nowadays?), and so being able to read the time from a distance without picking it up is nice. And ditto for the clock shrinking when I have a notification- the two different states make it easy to know when something is there.
On the wacky side, it updated to 12 a few weeks ago. Then this morning was the usual monthly security/bug fixing patch. And then just now I’m getting the “Upgrade to Android 12” notification? I’m hesitant, for no good reason.
About Android 12, can someone enlighten me as to how to easily view all the apps beyond those on the Home screen(s)? It was so easy before: you’d swipe up to switch between open apps, then swipe up a second time to view the rest. Now I have to swipe up three or four times to get them to appear seemingly on a whim, because on the second swipe all I get is the home screen again.
I have three button nav turned on so I can’t answer you but I can say that I think there are issues with swipe navigation going on. About 50% (just a feeling, non scientific) of the time when I swipe down on the top to see my notifications it does the double swipe business and shows settings instead. It’s maddening. I should probably disable that double-finger swipe thing that Adam or Craig mentioned. I don’t ever use two fingers but I wonder if it’s buggy because of that.
Edit: I cannot find a setting to disable the double finger swipe action. :(
Edit 2: testing shows that it’s a reproducible error. If I unlock the phone from being “off” then when I swipe from the top I get settings every time. When I do it while I’m using the phone, it works like normal. So it feels like it’s happening all the time because the first thing I do when I check my phone and unlock it is deal with my notifications.
For me it’s just a simple swipe up if you’re on the home screen. Whereas multi-tasking is sort of a swipe-and-hold from the very bottom of the screen. Are you using stock Android? Maybe your device manufacturer is using different gestures.

Works the same for me. @Papageno, try swiping up but not from the very bottom – that seems to help.
Thanks @Ginger_Yellow and @Aleck. I was swiping up from the very bottom of the screen as in Android 11. God knows why they went and changed that, apart from some people justifying their jobs.
The little message in the top left of my Pixel 6 Pro that said “See what’s new with Pixel” has gone away. I guess it got tired of waiting for me to view it. Anyone know if I can watch that from somewhere else in the menu?
On the bright side, it got replaced with the date and weather in a nice small font! It’s lovely. I quickly got rid of the other widget I setup.
EDIT: There’s a new app on my phone called “Pixel Tips”. Maybe if I had clicked on “see what’s new with Pixel”, it would have brought this up. Probably.
EDIT 2: Woah, Google has a podcast app called Google Podcasts. Very cool, I’ll try that out since I don’t like Pocketcasts anymore.
So I’ve had my Titan Pocket for two months now and am absolutely loving the thing. It didn’t take long to adapt to the small screen, and besides some niggles with Maps now and again, every other app runs as it would on any other phone I’ve owned.
I love, LOVE having a physical thumbprint reader, using the keyboard to quickly switch between apps, thanks to shortcuts, is AMAZING, and I’m still getting used to the physical keyboard, but I type faster on it every day. It’s also really a perfect size and weight for my hands, so it’s easy to do everything one-handed if need be. The battery life is also god damned amazing. I’ve got two days out of it with regular use before the low-battery alert pops on.
Overall I am super, super happy with this thing and I hope I get a long life out of it. Even if I don’t for whatever reason, it’s totally been worth the $200 I spent for it.

I don’t know if my answer matters since you post is 11 days ago but… I did the deal. I opted out for their insurance, so I only pay $9 per month for a 5a 5G Pixel. You don’t have to upgrade in 2 years if you don’t want to. I guess I’ll see how much they charge.

I got screwed up too because my address with Experian wasn’t my current one. Google only locked me out for 24 hours before i could try again.
Well that’s weird. Every time I’ve tried to go back it just says “financing is unavailable now.” Maybe I need to have the temporary lift on the credit freeze in place before even going to the Google Fi site. The weird part is that when I retried later that day that time the temporary lift had been activated.
I just checked again and sure enough, no financing available, thus no sweet deal. Going to try to lift the freeze for a week or something and come back. Also I should probably request my credit reports just in case there have been shenanigans from before I got the freeze in place about three/four years ago (which I doubt but who knows).
OK, just checked my credit report and the only thing “off” about it is that the name of my LOOONGtime employer has changed a couple of times since they created the record or whatever (it’s been a Daimler subsidiary since the early 80s, but kept calling itself Freightliner Corporation for a long time, then dropped “Corporation” for LLC (probably during the weird DaimlerChrysler phase), then eventually landed on DTNA which finally incorporated “Daimler” into its name, and it’s about to subtly change again officially after this month, since the car and truck parts of the conglomerate are legally separating.

Hmmm, that stinks. I hope you’re able to land this deal. I’m happy with the phone so far, but I’m probably not that demanding a user.
