It’s a lot cheaper with a trade in, which the site defaults to.
So I looked at the Samsung Cloud to see if it’s backing up properly before getting the new phone and it kept crashing, so I booted into safe mode. Crashed there too.
Upon rebooting to normal mode the phone went bugfuck. It’s sending old and random text messages to like everyone and it reset my home and keyboard settings. Whaaaaaaat the fuck.
Got the S21 Ultra today and my god you can totally tell the difference from the Note 10+. The camera is also incredible.
Idk man, still looks like a cat.

My S10e has had the charging port start to go - it currently only works if you turn the plug one way, and goes nuts the other way.
Which sucks, because this was the last flagship that hit all my buttons (microsd, jack, physical fingerprint, not OMGLOLHUEG)
I don’t know if i want to repair or replace: both are profoundly unpleasant options.
Damn when did that one come out?
Why does your bed have no headboard?
Apparently I suck at the new-fangled smartphone thing.
Did go for the ~$200 moto option again. Hate the tall form factor, but that’s about all there is.
Transferred most thing to the new phone - except text messages? Why is that a hard, not-automatic thing?
Is a 3rd-party app the answer? If so, which one? If there’s a built-in way, feel free to start your reply with “Dummy…”
Never mind – Dummy, eventually the new phone will say “do you want to transfer more stuff?”. Why that didn’t just happen in the first wave, I don’t know
My current bed frame has one, buy I agree - not really necessary.
There are definitely apps that will transfer SMS history. Had to find one for my dad when he switched phones last. The tech wasn’t built to save history service side. I use a free Google Voice number as my primary texting contact which does save your history server side.

The generic Android transfer app covers texts. But if that doesn’t work, my go to has always been SMS Backup & Restore
Always has worked well. and you can transfer SMS any time, not just during initial setup. Sometimes if I have a couple of current phones, I go back and forth w/ my SIM card and it always has worked well. You can transfer your backup to Google Drive, and optionally restore incremental backups (ie the last 2 months only). Only works w/ Android of course.
There are ways to get texts off an iPhone and import to Android, but they’re super clunky. AFAIK no means to import SMS to an iPhone any time other than the initial setup.
I just use Google Messages for texting. It backs up to your Google account and you can even use it on your PC.
That’s what I think I use - just the ‘Messages’ app. I can see the date and time of past messages on the new phone, but not any content.
So friends I’m running into the oddest thing, and I thought getting a new phone might fix it but no dice.
For some reason, every Twitter app I try doesn’t sync in the background. None of them. I’ve tried four so far and even though they have access to data and notifications, they still don’t sync in the background at all and I just cannot for the life of me figure out why. This is over WiFi and cellular.
Anyone ever run into anything like this and know how to fix it? Google searches are incredibly unhelpful. Thank you!
Settings > Apps > Twitter > check battery/network permissions & settings?
Yeah I did check that which makes it all even more confusing.
Twitter issue aside, I’ve had this S21 Ultra for a day and my god it’s wonderful. The Note 10+ wasn’t a slouch but this is soooooo much smoother, and the camera is incredible. Great battery life too.
Only downside is switching from buttons on the left to buttons on the right. Can we have some consistency please?

Probably this
On Android 11 Samsung will prevent apps work in background by default unless you exclude apps from battery optimizations. This is a severe divergence from standard Android process management policies.
No Android 12 info but I assume they carried onwards
So in doing research it looks like it’s a larger problem. Twitter no longer has an API that allows third party apps to do things like notifications. So I’ve switched to the official app, which is…not terrible.
