I’m liking my Pixel 6 Pro, but it violates point 3, and I think possibly 4.

I just bought a Samsung A52s 5g for my daughter, but it’s going end of life and arguably the A53 is strictly worse.

I appreciate it; I’ve gandered at it even despite its lack of a headphone jack but it’s hard to get over that cost for something which will be primarily used as a work distraction and GPS device, lol.

The end of life thing is a bit of a concern, I agree. Nice looking phone, however.

I only went for it because I got $350 in trade from Verizon for my Pixel 3a.

When I say end of life - it’s just about 9 months old and will be hard to find because the A53 is out. It should still have a couple years of updates.

Ahhh - got it

Pixel 5a with 5G is good enough in my book. Retails for 400, I think.

Yeah, I personally bought a Zenfone 8 because I wanted a flagship spec phone, a smaller (Ha!) screen, and I don’t care about the fairly ordinary camera. The A52s is the midrange phone I would get if I didn’t hate big screens.

Darn it; looks like only the GSM version is available, so no luck on my Verizon family plan.

Pixel 5A does seem to fit the bill?

A little worried I’ll miss out on a higher refresh, but maybe; I’ve got freaky eyes which can notice the difference between 144Hz and 240Hz on my PC monitor when gaming. Do you think it will make a difference or will that solely be on the gaming side which I don’t care about?

I also don’t game on the phone, and honestly don’t notice 60Hz vs 90Hz on my phone. I usually toggle it to 60 for longer battery life (I have a Pixel 6), but obviously YMMV.

I do notice on my computer, which runs 144Hz, but gaming…

Honestly I’m a framerate weirdo too, but I love my 5A 5G. Definitely recommend.

Is A53 good? I need a new phone, might as well get it when I’m forced into Durham Monday.

Can anyone help me? Googling for this issue gives nothing, for reasons I’ll get to in a moment.

I have a Galaxy S22 Ultra. Whenever I get a notification, I get the notification sound I have set. This is mostly fine, but there are a few notifications from apps that have their own sound - Ring or Teams, in particular - and I can’t find any option to have those apps play their sounds. It’s like it’s all or nothing for the sound I have set. Googling gives me endless results on how to change my system-wide notification sound, which isn’t helpful.

Has anyone else had this issue with a more recent Samsung phone?

How much does Samsung screw with stock Android? Normally you’d be able to set per app sounds in Settings > Notifications > App Settings.

I have the same phone. Looks like it’s under settings > Apps

Okay, I drove myself insane last night trying to follow these directions. But I couldn’t find any “App provided sound” option anywhere. And opening up any given app didn’t give me, like “Ring - Doorbell” or “Ring - Motion Alert” or anything. I gave up before going to bed last night.

BUT, the menus and stuff you were in gave me some new keywords for Google, and after wading through dozens of results explaining how to change the app specific sounds to custom ones, I found a lonely help post on Samsung’s support website where someone had my exact problem. And it turns out it’s a bug with their SmartSwitch software that brings apps over from one phone to another. Ironically, I never even thought about uninstalling and reinstalling any given app because it affected them all in the same way.

So there we go. I feel a little silly that the solution was so simple and so unconsidered. But I appreciate the screenshots, as those got me on the right path. Thank you Thraeg!

Cool, glad you were able to get it working!
