That’s what they gave me. Like I said, a pretty awesome deal.
Enjoying my Pixel 7 Pro also. My situation isn’t quite as crazy as yours, but I also did the pre-order to get $200 in Google Store credit, and I’m trading in my Pixel 3 XL. So their offer for a 2018 phone with a wonky charge port was freakin’ $275. Much better than Best Buy offering like $50.
I’ll probably use the $200 on a Pixel Watch, but they’re sold out of the LTE models. But I’m patient to wait for those to come back in stock. I’ve seen some gripes in the reviews, but I’m viewing it as “I’m getting a $200 Pixel Watch, not a $400 one” so I’m less bothered by the battery life and other concerns. When they iterate further have a better watch with like version 3 or something, I might get that at full price unless there’s another crazy trade-in plus store credit deal.
I suppose store credit can’t be used against your Fi bill?

One issue I’ve noticed with the pixel 7 pro is that it will not wirelessly charge my galaxy watch. This seems like an issue of the watch, not the phone, as it can wirelessly charge other things, and even on the s20 getting the watch to charge was always very fiddly.
But still, annoying because charging the watch that way was what I did while traveling to avoid bringing the watch charger.
Maybe I’ll look into getting a new watch, or just start wearing my mechanical watches… The main thing I used to watch for was fitness tracking anyway.
I am surprised how much faster the Pixel 7 feels vs my Pixel 3.
Glad I finally upgraded.

I’m really digging the pixel 7 pro, except for one thing.
What is the idea behind making the back of the phone out of an entirely frictionless material?
I had the same issue with the s20.
This seems like a really terrible design decision. The thing slides off of everything.

Isn’t that like every phone? Get a case for it. I like the Spigen cases. Fairly cheap, doesn’t add a lot of bulk, and very grippy.
Yeah, that was the worst thing about the Essential Phone. It’s hilarious what a big deal is made about the materials used for the exteriors of these phones when they’ve all basically ended up functionally useless until you put them in a plastic and rubber case.
I forgot my Pixel 3 had a glass back, up until I removed the case to send it back to google for trade-in.

Soft-touch plastic is the best material for these things, but it’s not “premium” enough.
The Pixel 7 apparently has 8x zoom? I think it works pretty well.
This was in the tree next to the parking lot of my foot doctor, 2 spots over from where I parked.
I am pretty sure I parked under that at least twice this year, didn’t even notice it until the leaves started falling this month.

It’s 5x optical, isn’t it?
I like going caseless but the S22 Ultra slips and slides like no phone I’ve ever owned. Put it on the sofa, slips to the floor (have a rug under, so no damage at least) or between cushions. I actually went crazy looking for it the other day and it was wedged DEEP between the armrest and cushion. Constantly falls out of my PJ pants pocket if I sit a certain way.
Thankfully, I haven’t dropped it on a hard surface yet. But I tried a Spigen clear case and it just became way too bulky for my tastes. Feels perfect without a case.
If you have the Pro version, yes. Because the camera is 48MP, Google also supports a 10x optical zoom of a sort by binning half the pixels in the full shots and showing only data from the optical zoom rather than interpolating. Same principle for going 2x.
The 4x optical zoom is excellent on my 6 Pro. So having a 5x now is that one step closer. Can’t fault the Pixel on picture quality. I get excellent results shooting with it, including in low light.
When I was at the Verizon store renegotiating our cell plans (we had been on some ancient limited data plan that wasn’t available any more for new customers, and was so obscure we could not change it from the website), I fiddled with the new Pixels. I had a Pixel 2 and liked it a lot, and I really like the feel of some of the newer Pixels too, the square-ish ones. Not a fan of super sleek slippery phones, which is one reason I like the way my iPhone 12 Pro feels in its Otter Box case.
But do the math carefully if you are considering changing. We are on a similarly ancient AT&T limited plan & EVERY time they have tried to force us to a “better” modern plan, we’ve found that it would cost around 30-50% more and have fewer features apart from theoretical and mostly useless 5G. I’m staying on this ancient plan until they I have no choice, consequently.
In our case, the cost stayed the same and we went from 2GB a month to unlimited, and got 5G in the bargain. The difference though was because we are over 55 and also do autopay. The discounts made it a no brainer.

Ooooh, this is so petty, I love it…
Google recently announced some enhancements to their Messages app last week. In-app reminders of events/birthdays/anniversaries, etc. Opening YouTube within the message app so you can send texts and chat about a video while watching it with your messaging partner
You can read one breakdown here:
The juicy bit is the text emoji reactions. As long time Android users know, for years when iMessage users ‘reacted’ or liked a text messge, we’d get an annoying quote back of the text we just sent with “user liked/laughed at/loved the long-ass sentence I just wrote”.
A short time ago, since Apple will not play ball wrt RCS messaging, Google hard coded converting those reactions received by SMS into emoji reactions. Great. So now, if an iOS user reacts to a message, Google put in the work to convert it to the actual reaction and eliminate the quoted text.
Of course, between Android users, thanks to RCS you could also send/receive reactions, but the option didn’t exist to react to iOS iMessage user texts. Well, with a forthcoming update, you will now be able to react to plain SMS messages from iOS users. Unfortunately for the poor Apple users, they will now receive the reaction as a quote of the message they sent with “user liked/laughed at/loved your text sentence”.
So Google has completely turned the tables. Android users will be able to react with anyone and send reactions to anyone and just see or send the emoji reaction. When the Google Messages update hits, iOS users when texting w/ non iOS users will now get the annoying quote back reactions.
I will be reacting to Apple user texts with extreme vigor.
Thankfully, nobody I text with “reacts”.
Wonderful!! Now I won’t get all those extra shit texts from my wife and her family, who are all on fucking iPhones.
