My icon shows the time (pixel 4a)

Is it actually a widget rather than an icon? Or is Google holding out the good clock icon for Pixel users only?

12:13 in my app drawer for my Pixel 7 Pro.

It’s the icon, Android 13. The widgets for the clock are different.

Holy shit, the clock icon in my app drawer shows the actual time? That’s crazy. Thanks for this tip! Not sure why I would need that though.

I don’t need it. I just want it. :)

That’s weird. I’m on Android 13 on my Galaxy S21, using the Google Clock app – which I probably had to download from the Play Store. Maybe Samsung replaces the default Android Clock with their Clock or something.

Not even the weather widget at the top of that screenshot? Or the Google search widget at the bottom? :)

Sadly neither are removable. One of my minor quibbles going from a Moto to a pixel was that Google thought it necessary to take up the top row of the home screen with At a Glance. I used to have a small 1x2 widget for the weather that have me more info than that. I do at least use the search widget maybe once a week, but I’d still prefer the option to remove it, but Google’s gonna Google.

Have you considered installing a different launcher? I quite like the Microsoft one and it’s quite customizable, if you’re into that sorta thing.

I don’t actually have that many widgets myself. I have a weather widget because for some reason every time I click on Google’s “At a Glance”, it brings up up the calendar rather than the weather. I have a screen time widget which shows me how much time I’ve wasted on YouTube and Qt3. I have a podcast widget with basic controls so i don’t have to click on the icon to play an app or FF or rev. I also have a full month calendar widget that takes up a whole screen, which I like.

Full calendar that takes a whole page is a great idea. I’m going to do that now.

Ok, I just noticed that the Google Calendar icon always shows 31, while the Samsung Calendar icon shows the actual date. Why?? Am I being trolled by Google?

Google calendar shows 19 on my Pixel 7

Same here. Is Samsung stopping your Google apps from functioning correctly?

Shows 19 on my S21.

I did some quick digging and it is apparently because of the launcher. The One UI launcher that Samsung comes with does not seem to support dates/times on the Google icons (but it does on the Samsung icons, imagine that). The popular Nova Launcher and the Pixel Launcher on Pixel phones do support that feature. How annoying! I always just stick with the default Samsung launcher since it’s generally fine and I don’t want a third party launcher to steal battery life (not sure whether that’s a real concern or not).

Do you use Nova Launcher (and the Google Calendar app)?

Yeah I do use Nova Launcher. Have for a decade now.

I have trouble “pushing up” from the home screen to get the list of running tasks

I think the Microsoft dock with 5 icons is blocking the gesture somehow. Is it just me?
