Nice! I’ve completely fallen off the turnip wagon, but we’re continuing to slowly move through a laundry list of island changes and improvements that’ll drain the ol bank account eventually, I suspect…

A certain peppy mouse asked to leave today, and while I adore her, she’s still in her starter house and I already have her photo, so who am I to keep her from her dream of being a world famous pop star.

We held her final concert on the island tonight, and tomorrow she’ll be in boxes. So give me a holler if tomorrow you’ll have a vacant plot and you’re interested in the fabulous Penelope. (Crown not included. ;) )

Oh wow! Did you set all that up through Harv’s island? That looks amazing <3

Yep, went to Harv’s! I saw the idea on Reddit, loads of people make up scenes for their departing villagers to remember them by, so I wanted to try it myself. I generally have no use for Harv’s, but this seemed like a fun thing to do!

My gf genuinely wound in tears over the cuteness; thank you for sharing :)

My very first villager - Sheldon - asked for my advice yesterday about moving. I told him to follow his bliss. He left this morning. I think he’d be honored if Penelope took his place :-)

@Calelari Oh, cool! So if you’re around sometime tomorrow (and no randoms have claimed your currently vacant plot) we can arrange to have you come by to invite her to your island. I’m generally pretty flexible during the day (anything later morning or later EST), so let me know what works for you.

@ArmandoPenblade I’m so glad you both liked it! I enjoyed doing it. :)

That goodbye concert shot is awesome!

Maybe I can recreate my diner at Harv’s. It bugs me to no end in this game that you can create all kinds of elaborate setups and your residents never use them. It’d be nice if they’d at least go to them and sit down occasionally.

Yay, Penelope said yes.

Aside: Even though I haven’t done a ton of development yet, every time I visit someone’s island I feel like I’ve already made grave mistakes in how my buildings are placed. (And I’ve already spent a pile of bells moving stuff around once I unlocked all the tools.)

Yay, so glad she’s going somewhere “local”, hehe. I hope she finds fame and fortune on your island, and I look forward to visiting her! (And seeing what her “real” house looks like. I know I could look up a screenshot online, but I’d like to see it firsthand.)

So this was the first time I’ve ever had anyone come claim one of my departing villagers. After @Calelari left, I tried to go see Penelope again, to see if she was going to tell me about where she was going, but instead I couldn’t enter her house, and the note on the door said “I’ve moved out.”

I wasn’t expecting THAT. Glad I had her goodbye conversation when I first loaded it up this morning, hehe. I assume she didn’t just magically appear on your island, right Calelari? I assume your previously vacant plot just has the SOLD sign on it now and she’ll arrive tomorrow?

Yep, just “sold”. I should probably pack up all the sports equipment I placed in the yard…

I did not know there was a conversation past the “I think I want to leave” one where you encourage or discourage. I’ve had a couple villagers and leave didn’t follow up with them :-(

Aw, well, it’s nothing special. Once they’re in boxes you can’t change their mind again and get them to stay at the last minute or anything. But it’s just a typical “Goodbye, I’ll miss you, we’ve had great times, etc” type of conversation, so I like that have that one.

I’m going to visit a bunch of Nook Miles islands tomorrow to try and find another peppy for Penelope’s plot, but I’ll wait to update her all pink yard until I see who I end up with. Maybe I’ll find Flora (pink flamingo) and just keep all the pink, hehe.

I’ll have Zucker in boxes tomorrow if anyone wants him. I know he’s highly prized by traders so I’m sure I can get rid of him but would rather he go local if any Q23ers want him

Oh man, I’d take him if I wasn’t going to be looking for another peppy instead. The odds are pretty low that I’d have an open plot on the day someone else has someone in boxes so it seems a shame to pass him up, though Zucker isn’t one of my most sought after so I’m gonna pass.

Zucker is a hilarious and adorable addition to any island, though I was absolutely horrified when my partner showed me how his entire visual design is based off the tasty octopus based dish, takoyaki. Insert scream emoji here.

So I had a short list for peppies I was interested in finding, and after only about 5 or 6 NMTs, I found Tangy! There were a few that I was hoping to find first, but Tangy is adorable, and since she’s an orange, and my native fruit are oranges, she seemed a good fit. :)

Now I need to re-landscape the housing plot… guess I’ll be switching all the pink flowers at the plot with all the orange flowers at my entrance… hm, and I guess she’ll be wanting an orange tree or two…

Lord I adore Peppies. Welcome to the Qt3 Animalverse, Tangy!

How - generally speaking - do people make up their villager shopping lists? I gather certain villagers are extremely popular with the AC community as whole but I’m unclear why even after looking at a wiki. Is it appearance, familiarity from previous games, are some rare in some fashion, …?

In our case, at least, we look for a mixture of variety (at least one of each Type; a mix of species/looks), hobbies (if they have one listed), house/character design, and – yeah – novelty (Merengue is one of my favorites for the sheer insanity of her entire design, hah).
