Yeah, I’m not sure how many pumpkins I’ll need in the end. My patch is 30 pumpkins, and since I assume I’ll be able to replant every few days (no idea yet how long they take to grow… probably similar to flowers?), we’ll see how it goes.

The limited seasonal item in my Nooks today was a pumpkin table… I’m curious whether it’s the same for everyone? (And whether there will be different items every day, or just a few items rotating in, like the summer surfboard/fan.)

I had a pumpkin scarecrow (spooky scarecrow? I’m not sure what it was called. It’s a scarecrow with a pumpkin head). And yes, I hope it’s more than two items. Boy was I sick of that surfboard/fan combo by the end of the summer!

I also had the ‘spooky scarecrow’ pumpkin-head guy in Nooks, put him in my pumpkin patch and made sure to water them up good. And yeah, having the same items repeating for an entire season was a little much so hope this is a bit different.

Bought that single candy for Halloween but otherwise am a tad disappointed I didn’t find any new fish, bugs, or sea creatures in my first foray. I’m usually overwhelmed by new stuff on day 1 but going the opposite way is just ugh. Ah well, hope there’s something new to donate to the museum coming up as there’s not a lot left for me to find (the museum is my favorite part).

I missed a handful of museum collectibles over the months, so it’ll be next summer before I polish mine off, d’oh.

My store item today is a little tree with a sad pumpkin hanging off of it. It’s kind of cute, in a tragic way, lol.

I’m not sure how easy it’s going to be to collect all the Halloween DIYs, but on my island right now (about 2:00 pm EST) Tangy is crafting a Spooky Candy Set. Not sure how long she’ll be doing that, but I’m open for now if anyone wants to come by and get the DIY from her. Dodo is CLOSED.

She lives in the Southwest neighborhood, in the house surrounded by orange flowers.

So my first batch of pumpkins ripened today, planted on October 1st. Here’s a few things I’ve learned about the Halloween stuff over the past few days.

  1. I planted a pumpkin patch with 30 starters, but I got wayyyyy more than 30 pumpkins from my harvest, so it seems like pumpkin plants give you multiple pumpkins when you harvest them. Also, the plants will continue to produce after you harvest, so they appear to be just like flowers in that regard. Not sure if the next production will be the same color.

  2. Regarding DIYs - I always make an effort to go find my villagers that are crafting. There are always two DIYs you can get from crafting villagers per day – one in the AM and one in the PM (I’m not entirely certain what time the cutoff is). So far, since October 1st, it seems that my AM villager is always make a Spooky DIY. Not sure if that’s a coincidence (since it’s only day 4) or if it will continue to be the case, but if you’re after all the Halloween DIYs, maybe make an effort to check your villagers in the AM?

  3. On October 1st, my Nooks was selling a Spooky Table, which I bought. But yesterday, one of my crafting villagers was crafting a Spooky Table, so I got the recipe to make more. So it appears that Nooks may be selling craftable items, which I don’t think has ever happened before.

If you dig up a pumpkin plant, you’ll see that it has a colour assigned, so the plant will always give you the same colour if you let them regrow, 3 pumpkins per plant. I only made a 4x4 pumpkin patch (-1 for the scarecrow), though, as that seems plenty for crafting and customization, for now. As long as I get enough of each colour. I didn’t get any whites my first harvest, so I’ve dug up and replanted a set of four from starters.

I’m all for more stuff, but continuing to clear out my storage makes me sad.

I’m a slacker on doing the things though, so there’s that. For instance, Redd was visiting one day and I didn’t have to time to check him (remote work, yo) and made a mental note to do so later that day. Then I didn’t.

Speaking of DIYs, what’s best to be doing with all these extras I have?

Depends on a) how common they are and b) how much you can be bothered to give them to other people / arrange visits to do so. Super common ones you should probably just vendor. I tend to save up a bunch and then post on /nofeeac every so often to arrange to give them away. (I did one recently and honestly thought I had posted it here, but my post history indicates I actually didn’t, so sorry about that!)

Here’s a trick I learned on Reddit for storing them though… since as you know, you can’t put them in storage.

Get yourself a table of some kind… a large 2x2 one (that can have 4 small items on it) is best. I use a spare “Table with Cloth” I have. Put it down outside somewhere not near any other items on the ground. (Doesn’t have to be super far away.) Then place 4 DIYs on top of the table – if you face the table, then select “drop” on the DIY is should go on top of the table. Once your table has four DIYs on it, make sure you’re standing right up against the table, open your Nook phone, go to the Island Construction app and choose the “cleanup” option. After a bit of a confirmation, it will send the table and everything on it (the DIYs) to your recycle box. You can then go grab the table out of the recycle box and repeat until all your DIYs are in the recycle bin. (And just leave the table in there until you need it next time.)

The recycle bin has more space in it than just the two visible rows… once they are full, you get a scroll bar in that screen. I usually wait until I’ve accumulated four or five rows of DIYs then give them all away at once on a day I have a lot of time to kill, hehe. (I promise to advertise here the next time I do house cleaning!)

How does one know which recipes are common and which are not - Pascal’s and Celeste’s seem obviously rare, but otherwise?

That’s a good question that I don’t have a good answer for. For me, I consider the ones that I seem to get tons of, and that are relatively uninteresting (DIY Worktable, for example) to be “common”, but maybe there are some that I get a ton of that other people really want. To be sure, I vendor very few DIYs because I tend to err on the side of caution.

Thanks for the invite! Took no time at all to gather 20-30 wishes… and it’s a new zodiac month too (at least since I’ve last seen Celeste) so I was able to grab the Libra Scales DIY. Hopefully I’ll get some Libra fragments tomorrow.
