Closing gates for now. Haven’t taken inventory yet of what’s left, but if there’s any more interest in browsing my extras, tag me and I should be able to open up again later!

Celeste is visiting, also have shooting stars, and a yellowish/brown plushie pup at Nooks if anyone wants to drop in JS4PW
Oh if anyone has one purple wildflower they would be willing to part with I would be most grateful - not having any luck with that one

Ooh I’ll come over and see Celeste! And I’m happy to bring a few purple windflowers for you… I’m swimming in them. :)

Cool, I’ll be over in a few! Haven’t fired up a while and Celeste still has my outstanding goals. :) Thanks!

I left purple windflowers on the beach just west of your airport. Any idea where Celeste is roaming?

Edit: found her :)

Ran into @Hansey at Celeste! Got a Saggitarius Arrow, which I needed to get out of the way in my quest for the lunar lander, so that’s progress. Thanks for opening up, @Indyls!

Thank you for the flowers @Hansey. I’ve been wanting to make some flower stands.

You’re very welcome! I’ve got at least a few of every flower, so if you need any others anytime, just give me a holler.

Thanks for opening up!

Happy Winter everyone!

Hey, does anyone have any extra maple leaf or mushroom recipes? My son is kind of annoyed that November passes so quickly and we hardly got any of those recipes. I would love to trade if possible!

I haven’t popped into this thread in a long time, and Discourse search delenda est sucks, so…has anyone complained about them hiding recipes in balloons yet? I and my girlfriend play this game pretty much every single day, just popping on to dig up fossils, check the shops, maybe rearrange some stuff, plant a money tree. The usual things. We got fucking buried in Bunny Day recipes, and there were a nice handful of tree’s bounty ones, but between the two of us playing every day, of the Mushroom, Maple and Festive recipes, we have found exactly one: I just lucked into an autumn forest wall from a balloon. It is such a bafflingly stupid decision to hide all these recipes behind the balloons, which don’t spawn reliably, are easy to miss when they do spawn, and then have an extremely high chance to just have something completely useless like 5 clay inside. I really wish I could talk to a dev about this and ask why they would put such a frustrating mechanic into their otherwise extremely chill game. A much, much better way to handle it would be to give them out based on the crafting materials collected, but that nifty little mechanic seems limited to a couple of throwaway recipes, and I have no idea why. They added the recipes from building a (perfect only! another sort of odd frustration adder) snowman, but they’re just the kind of ugly ice things, not the holiday things. Swing and a miss.

It’s particularly egregious after they had villagers give recipes for Halloween, too. Like why would you change that.

Genuinely, this has been incredibly frustrating. Balloon hunting is basically my nightly gig now, just camping on the coast while I scroll Qt3 on my phone. The snowman thing, too. My girlfriend was nearly in tears resetting the game over and over again to try to perfect one because she was so anxious about not getting enough big snowflakes ahead of Christmas, and between the two of us, we have all of two holiday-themed balloon recipes for this season.

edit: A lot of AC decisions, from my admittedly new-to-the-series read on things, are almost purposefully maddening. They’ve got a very peculiar way of looking at game development and what’s right for their vision of things, but really stick to it, for better or worse. The perfect Nintendo title, in that vein, hah.

I’ve complained about this incessantly, just not in this thread, hehe.

It’s really frustrating, and I only ended up with a handful of the mushroom recipes from autumn because of this. Balloons do spawn fairly reliably but it’s still a massive pain to farm them. They spawn every five minutes, at xx:04 and xx:09. If you’re inside a building when the clock ticks over to those minutes, you’ve probably lost your chance. If you’re outside when it spawns but then go inside a building, you’ve probably lost the spawn. Then you have to run up and down your island looking for it (they go east to west during the day, and west to east at night), and then you have to hope it has a DIY in it. It’s super time consuming and boring and frustrating. I spent upwards of an hour farming balloons the other day, managed I think about 7 or 8, and not a single DIY.

I’ve scored a single Festive DIY so far… the medium sized festive tree (the one outside resident services). But god, farming balloons is so mind numbingly dull. I wish they would make them available in the shop like they did with all the Thanksgiving recipes.

I’m finally getting the hang of perfect snowman making, but it appears we’ll have until February 24th to get all of those, so I’m pretty confident I’ll manage all those. @ArmandoPenblade, maybe you know this already, but if you get a perfect snowman built, make sure you speak to him every day until he melts… he’ll give you a large snowflake every day after building him, not just on the first day.

The festive recipes will stop spawning in balloons on January 6th, so they’ll be available past Christmas, but not much longer. I’m not confident I’ll be able to get even close to finding them all given the terrible drop rate and then frustrating boredom of farming them.

The truly frustrating thing is…well, the balloons for sure. But somewhat less so but still frustrating is how inconsistent it is. Bunny Day? TAKE THESE RECIPES, YEAH, JAM EM IN YOUR FACEHOLE. Halloween? Sure! Here’s some in balloons, some from villagers, and hey you can buy these items ready made from the store, whatevs. Turkey Day? You’ll get the recipes the day of, but from an easily understandable process and hey fuck it, if you missed it we’ll just sell you the whole set tomorrow at the store. Christmas/Cherry Blossoms/Mushrooms(eh)/Maple? Fuck you, balloon farm. The weird thing is the Tree’s Bounty stuff was apparently also only in balloons but we had no trouble getting a bunch of those.

I spent so much time farming acorns and pinecones and wound up with like, one Tree’s Bounty recipe to use them on.

I mean, I guess all this gives me something to do with the game a year from now. And I can, theoretically at least, appreciate variety in holiday event “styles” (especially if that means fewer run like Bunny Day). But it’s definitely, nonetheless, 1000% obnoxious.

Is this island dependent or is south at the top of my screen, because on our island they go from left to right in the day and right to left at night.

I was going to make a perfect snowman today, but I tried pushing the second ball into the first twice and it just…bumped them around. I thought maybe it was too big, so I was going to push it away but the imprecise ball handling (hehe) grabbed the bigger ball and tossed it on top of the smaller one! First time I’ve had trouble with them.

I believe balloon directions is hemisphere dependent, but I suppose it may be randomized like the airport/variable item colors and such.

And yeah, we definitely had the “smaller snowball obstinately refuses to hop up on top of the larger for 30 frustrating seconds until one mis-step nudges the large ball to enthusiastically leap up and ruin today’s Snowboy” experience. . .

It was very surprising! And not in a good way!

I found a big thread over on a dedicated AC site of people bitching about the balloons, too. Like, does anybody like it? Can anybody at ACHQ be looking at this and thinking, “Aw, yiss, mission accomplished”?

Whew, ok, I think I’m all raged out for now.

Youtube continuously suggests ACNH TikTok compilations to me, and when I broke and watched one while endlessly scrolling the internet the other night, substantial portions of it were just some random lady Twitch streamer losing her absolute gaddanged mind over mushroom recipes. She apparently started accumulating this pile of bizarre, chat-suggested rituals in her balloon hunt as the TikToks of her stream highlights continued throughout the larger compilation, culminating in a screaming celebration of finally acquiring the Mush Lamp minutes before the clock changeover to the next season. Praise be to the Mush Gods, indeed.

Literal cargo cult.
