“Hey little blue bug I’ve never seen before… please come back!”

Something weird happened recently. The dodo airlines pilot spoke if a service to take items and ship them back to my house free of charge, but when I tried to do it he didn’t have the option to ship or move items anywhere. Does anyone know what’s going on?

Also can you gift the same thing over and over to residents? Or after one it doesn’t improve relationship?

This “service” only applies to sending things back from Harv’s island. And it’s pretty pointless, because there is only one event that takes place on Harv’s island where you might theoretically be able to get an items but if your inventory happens to be full, you can’t get it. It is seriously a tiny edge case that probably has affected a miniscule number of players, yet there it is, making people think it’s an actual useful service or something.

So yeah, if you were thinking, “hey, I can farm bug or sharks on this Nook Miles Island for days and send everything back with Wilbur,” then I’m afraid you’re going to be disappointed. :(

You can give them the same thing over and over again, I’m pretty sure it still improves relationship. I know a lot of people like to give iron wall lamps, because they won’t put those in their houses (and ruin their aesthetic) to raise friendship levels. Since my museum is complete and I don’t need bells, I like to give new residents wrapped identified fossils as gifts until I get their photo. I stop gifting entirely once I have that coveted photo, hehe.

One thing to beware of with gifting furniture items, even wall ones that they won’t use, is that I’ve heard (it hasn’t happened to me) that residents have a max item limit, and if you reach a point where you’ve given them enough items that they won’t use in their house, they’ll just start removing items they have (because it gets pushed out by the items they can’t use). However, I think this item limit is quite high. I’ve never encountered this issue, but again, I stop gifting once I have their photo.

Thanks!

I’ve been trying to gift them wrapped clothes, but I’ve run out and was thinking if gifting them balloons, fireworks, and other items in that category yiu can buy at twin Nooks. It’s the most affordable thing. Though not sure if it’s any better than butterflies?

And fir butterflies does their sell value make a difference?

I’m not certain if value affects how many “friendship points” you get for that gift, but it does affect what kind of gift they give you in return. (If they haven’t been counter-gifting you, it’s probably because the gifts you’re giving them don’t meet the threshold value-wise).

An easy gift to give if you have it to spare yet is to shake one of your non-native fruit trees (I think you said you started with oranges, so any of the fruit other than oranges or coconuts), and gift wrap a piece of fruit (or even the stack of three you get from shaking the tree). It’s easy, they like it, and they won’t clutter up their house with it. And it will grow back!

For more gift ideas, I’ve heard that your residents are very fond of umbrellas, even ones that don’t match their color preferences.

Wrapped fruit is a pretty standard gift in Japan!

Have they added Brewster yet?

No. :(

Ohhh! Tom Nook just said resident services is upgrading and moving to a new location tomorrow! Excited to see what this brings.

I’ve done the “Bury $30,000 dollars” thing in the glowing gold hole, but all I ever get is $30,000 back ($10,000 x 3). What am I doing wrong?

As I recall, someone did the work/math/whatever and determined the ideal amount to bury in order to make money over time is $10,000.

@Calelari is correct. The most you are ever guaranteed to get back is three 10,000 bell bags. Basically, you are guaranteed to get back three times of whatever you plant up to 10,000. So if you planted 5,000, you’d get back 15,000, 7,000 you’d get back 21,000 etc… up to the maximum 30,000.

If you plant anything over that, there is a TINY chance you will get back 3x that amount… so if you planted 99,000 (the maximum you can plant), there is a very, very small chance you’ll get back 297,000… but more likely than not you’re gonna get 30,000.

As @Calelari said, someone did testing and determined that over the long run, always planting 10,000 will net you higher returns.

Great thank you. I’ll do 10,000 ftt try I’m now on. And after I harvest the money I should chop it down because it won’t produce again nor anything else?

Correct.

I’d recommend leaving at least one stump around your island as well. There’s at least one bug that only appears on stumps.

Also, I just want to let the world know I went 0-3 against scorpions on my island last night. I did not cover myself in glory at all. No idea what the hell happened.

Haha, my sympathies. Scorpions require a ridiculous amount of patience to catch, but I can do it consistently (finally). Honestly, it’s a matter of holding the button down (so your net is raised) and verrrry slooooowly creeping toward them. When they raise their claws at you threateningly, freeze, and then as soon as they lower the claws again, start creeping toward them slowly again… rinse and repeat until you’re within striking distance. It generally takes me upward of a minute to catch a scorpion because you have to be so cautious. (This method also works for tarantulas.)

Wow that’s great to know. How many should show up on your island at night?

I don’t think there’s any kind of formula other than “it’s rare so expect it at about the same frequency as other rare bugs”. Every time you enter a building and leave again, all your bug and fish spawns reset, so you can “search” for them in that manner, but scorpions and tarantulas really require you to be very observant, because if they see you before you see them, it might be too late and you’ll end up stung/bitten.

Next to the favorite button. What do those two icons represent?

The net lets you mark it as something you’ve caught,. The other thing (Blathers?) lets you mark it as donated to the museum.

There are various filters you can apply from the 3-dot menu, including those two conditions.
