Awesome thanks!

If you’re dead set on making bells fast, you may as well just play the stalk market (turnips). That can be insanely lucrative if you’re willing to invest the capital.

I made 500,000 bells the first time I tried the turnip game and never ever came close to that again in terms of raw amount or percentage gain. I didn’t have Nintendo Online, so I couldn’t do the “sell at someone else’s island” thing, and I just found trying to remember to check prices twice a day too stressful, especially with how lopsided the windows were.

How do you even buy turnips? I haven’t found a way yet. When do prices change from day to afternoon price?

You buy them from a little pig with a runny nose on Sundays, although I don’t think she shows up right away. The price change happens at noon, which is silly since the store doesn’t open until 8 and is open until 10, so you get one price for four hours then another price for the next ten.

Daisy May shows up from ??? o’clock to noon on Sundays, in-game, wandering around your island as a funny little pig with a big ol snot bubble blowing out of her nose, hah.

She’ll sell turnips for X bells at that point.

Monday - Saturday, the store on your island (and others) will buy turnips at a set price. Like @Kolbex noted, that price changes at noon each day.

There are a handful of “patterns” for prices. Fluctuating, slowly decreasing, small jump, and large jump. Each week, your island will (mostly) randomly pick one of these patterns secretly in the background (there’s some modest math at work that makes it unlikely to keep getting the same result week after week and the like).

If you’ve got a decreasing pattern, womp womp, the best you can do is sell your turnips for a small loss first thing on Monday morning. But the problem is, the small and large jump patterns start out looking a lot like a decreasing pattern! D’oh!

There are websites you can use that will calculate the pattern you’re on and reasonably predict your max/min prices for the week after you can give it a couple weeks’ worth of data.

So, you can very easily invest heavily, wind up in a decreasing week, and lose money. Or only buy a few and trigger a big spike week and have nothing to sell!

Final thoughts on turnips:

You can visit others’ islands to sell. We used to be really good about posting our prices in this thread, but I think enough of us have cooled that it’s not super frequently checked anymore, sadly. But there are also websites where people post their Dodo codes if they have a good price (though getting onto and off of their islands can be a real hassle, since the whole game pauses for everyone everytime someone arrives or leaves. . . ).

If you fail to sell your turnips by the following Sunday, they rot and become next-to-worthless.

Not totally worthless.

It turns out that a certain bug really likes spoiled vegetables and will only show up for them. . .

The app @jpinard appears to have already downloaded also includes turnip market tracking. The thing really is a Swiss army knife. It has a tracker built in, or it can link out to turnipprophet (I think it also handily pre-fills the website fields for you if you entered everything in the app).

Well hot diggity dang y’all, animal crossing went and got fancy while I was feeling sad and avoiding my island friends

I’ve been using that same app too, it really is fantastic for tracking things. It’s one of the few free apps I actually paid a few bucks to remove ads from because it’s such a good app.

I don’t bother tracking everything (who has time to log every single piece of furniture and clothing when there are so many!), but apart from the obvious museum tracking, I do log DIYs. I’m currently about 50 away from having them all, with the vast majority of them either being Celeste’s or the rarer wreaths/crowns you get from crafting villagers.

As for turnips… yeah, it’s pretty great for that too, though once I got the Nook Miles achievement for 10,000,000 bells from the stalk market, I stopped buying turnips, and haven’t looked back, haha.

I played the market a few times, but what with work making me miss half the price changes it was too stressful.

blink… blink…

Haha!

Yeah, it was really annoying to be honest. I owe many thanks to the folks here who were at the time announcing high turnip prices, but I also made the effort of checking /r/nofeeAC where folks would announce their high turnip prices, but the idea of that subreddit is that you’re not allowed to charge people stupid prices to come to their island (as is common). I usually tipped a couple of bags of bells anyway, but at least it wasn’t like “100 NMT + 5,000,000 bells entrance fee!!!” The main hassle with it was that it took ages because they were letting dozens of people come and go, so you usually a) had to wait in a queue and b) even once you were there were bothered by the annoying coming and going messages. I also recognize that I am fortunate in being able to play whenever I want, so work obligations don’t get in the way.

Which is all part of why I haven’t bought a turnip since, hehe.

So if I put enough turnip prices into that thing it’ll predict them?

Isabelle showed up today. Yippee!

It’ll make predictions with one or two data points, but I wouldn’t trust those :-)

It gives you percentage bands - i.e., 50% its fluctuating, 25% its decreasing, 25% its going to spike, and what the possible range of values is for each am/pm block. It does eventually get to a point where it’s certain what the pattern is but that usually takes a couple days.

What your pattern was the previous week also affects this week, so try to make a note of that. (I sometimes had a devil of a time remembering, or remembering where I wrote it down.)

It’s way easier to visualize on turnipprophet than it is in the app:

You can punch it all in to the app and then have it bop you over to the website using the same data.

“turnipprophet” is one of the most inspired puns I have seen in a long time.

Well that’s a joke I’m getting a year and a half late.

EEK! To fix my messed up island is gonna cost $300,000. And I still have $300,000 to pay off my home expansion. This amount feels overwhelming. Any tips or help on this?

At some point do you get to change where streams and hills are? Someone said something about terraforming and I didn’t know if they meant it in the traditional sense?

Which app?

I just lived with my crappy placement until I’d built bridges/ramps to all sections of the island and all the NPC buildings upgraded. Then I (very) slowly started rearranging. After that I finished my house upgrades - which there’s absolutely no hurry on as you don’t pay interest or anything. I only worked on paying off an upgrade when I got the point I really wanted the next upgrade.

You eventually unlock the ability to raise and lower terrain and add/remove water along the rivers.

The ACNH.Guide app on your phone. If by chance you have noticed, in the upper corner there’s a little book icon with an arrow. There’s a ton of additional functionality behind that button. Including the turnip calculator,

I’m trying to figure out where the next resident should go and not need to move their house as well when I rearrange. A larger overhead map than the mini-map would be helpful.

I got these cute thumbcaps for my switch :)

Allow me to introduce you to Happy Island Designer

That is great… except it registers my finger presses a cm above where I’m actually pointing. Maybe it’ll work better on tablet or my home computer when I get to go home.

Got my pocket space upgraded today. Yea!!!
