So awhile back I got to the “end” of the DLC (credits roll, but not everything is done yet) and unlocked the ability to remodel my island residents homes. I’d been wishing for the ability to do just that so I could remodel Skye’s starter house, but didn’t do it right away, because I wanted to take my time and make sure I gave her the house she well deserved, hehe. I started with remodeling a few of my other villagers’ houses, especially Erik’s, since I didn’t really like his house in New Horizons… so I remodeled it to look more like his New Leaf house, which I always loved.

Here is the remodel of Erik’s house I did:

For comparison’s sake, here is what his New Leaf house looked like… I didn’t look at this image when I was doing the redesign, so I was sort of pleased with myself after the fact at how much I managed to capture the vibe (I thought).

Also, here is what his New Horizon’s house looks like, which just seemed so… uninspiring (and why I wanted to remodel it).

Anyway, moving on to Skye’s house… I learned that you can “complain” to Isabelle about a villager’s home, and it will revert to their default house. I did this with Skye, and it did indeed change her generic starter house to her “real” house. I was glad I was able to see it, but I honestly found her house to still be a bit uninteresting, so I set to giving my girl the remodel she deserved. I’m really happy with it, and I get so happy whenever I visit her now, hehe.

Anyway, I’m really enjoying the DLC still. At some point in the DLC you get a Happy Home Network designer code so people can look at your portfolio (though I think you’re limited to showing off only ten projects, so you have to pick which ones are available, but they can be changed at any time) and even visit those locations (which is nice, since there is only ever one photo, so there’s no way to display photos of both the upstairs, downstairs and outside of a vacation home). Anyway, if anyone else is still playing, has unlocked that feature and wants to browse, my HHN code is RA-6229-1862-3329.

I’m not playing anymore, but those are some very cozy-looking homes. I do believe Skye’s was made for me!

The struggle is that while on the DLC island, when designing a vacation home, you can change the space size (up to 10x10) and add a second floor even. But when redesigning an island resident’s home, you cannot change the size or add more rooms, so you’re limited to the default 6x6. It’s a challenge, but I enjoy it!

@Hansey very nice! I see so many new things - I assume you get them with the DLC. So cozy!

I think that a lot of new items were added with the free update that came out at the same time as the DLC, though they’re easier to obtain with the DLC. But I don’t think it’s necessary to own to DLC to get them.

But yeah… there are loads of new items in the game now!

My son really went for the designer part of the DLC and got to the DJ KK concert, but I can’t for the life of me figure out if that is a one time event or if DJ KK comes back on some sort of regular basis. Anyone have any idea about that?

I think it’s a progress based thing. Every few additional homes I design for the island brings him back for another concert.

Yeah, I think @Telefrog has it right. It’s not time based (like weekly performances by KK on your home island) but every X vacation homes designed brings DJ KK back. I’m not sure whether it’s a minimum week between performances (regardless of how many homes you’ve done) but I can say for sure that I’ve gone longer than a week if I’ve not done a ton of homes for a while.

I might be wrong though. I see some people say he comes back every two weeks on Sunday, and it has nothing to do with making more vacation homes.

I don’t think that’s right. I know he doesn’t always come on Sunday because he turned up on like a Tuesday for me once, and I remember thinking it was a weird day of the week to show up… and it definitely wasn’t the same day of the week he’d turned up the previous week.

Also, today when I visited, the stage was getting set up, so it looks like he’ll be performing tomorrow (Monday).

I figure it is actually based on how many homes you’ve done. I had just done one yesterday after having gone a few days without doing any, so it seems like that one bumped the counter just enough, hehe.
