Well, the only reason I’m playing is because I bought the game for my wife and then she wanted me to pop on as a second islander. Not because of hype nor because of any lockdown (we are both still working). I’ve not played any other AC game, either, although she certainly has.
I feel proud that my house blew past hers in the last Home Academy, hitting 132,000 while hers is stuck at 108,000 right now, and she spends about 10x longer playing than I do, tries for turnips every week, and is on Nookazon all the time buying/selling/trading like mad to get all the special stuff she can. Me, I just walk around fishing, digging fossils, catching butterflies, planting flowers and tending my estate, and donating to the museum. Heehee.
I feel like the HHA ranks your house based solely on the amount of stuff you have, not necessarily how nice it looks. My son got A ranking with his house meticulously arranged and organized, while I got S ranking by literally putting every piece of clothing I own up on the walls so I would have more storage space. And every square inch of floor space is carpeted with dropped wallpapers and flooring.
I have to say, as much as I’ve complained about being a second-class citizen as a second player (since the Island Representative gets to do a lot of things no one else can do), I’ve had a much better time playing on a shared island than playing on separate islands. We both played New Leaf on our separate systems when it came out, and there was never a drive to collaborate or advance as much since we were both playing individually. It’s less fun to redesign an outdoor cafe area when there’s not a second player who will see it when they log in.
Looks like I’m about a 50/50 split on turnips this week. It’ll be either a large spike or they’ll just decrease everyday. Knowing my luck it’ll probably decrease. If I get lucky though, I’ll open up our island.

After inputting this afternoon’s prices I’m close to this as well, but still slightly more optimistic… looks like about 60% chance of a large spike, 35% decreasing, 5% everything else . Fingers crossed for the large spike.

Strangeness:
I’ve had 5 people water my flowers multiple times now (I’m in on a group that does flower watering for each other, it’s nice).
Usually flowers just sparkle until the 5th other person besides me does them, then they sparkle big (large blue/white sparkles).
But today they are sparkling gold. I wonder if this is special. I almost want to go to bed so I can get up and see :)

Maybe because you have a gold watering can now? I don’t know if the gold watering can affects anything other than creating gold roses from black ones, but perhaps the visual indicator is meant to tell you that the flowers were watered by at least one gold watering can?
I didn’t use it. The only thing I can think of is that it’s also raining on the island today.
It just has a larger radius (3x3) as well as creates gold roses. And breaks less often, which is nice, too, I guess.
Edit: Maybe one of my visitors used a gold can.

So I have the upright piano in my shop today for 53,000. I don’t need to buy one because I have it already, and have turned it into a street piano. I’ve opened my gates in case anyone wants to buy the upright - code is 4775X. Additionally, if you have the street piano DIY, I’ve also left a painting set on the path just outside the airport, so you can pick it up to catalog it. (Please drop it again after cataloging.)

My turnips continue a downward trend, but the forecast is still higher for a large spike - 55% for large spike vs. 38% continued decreasing.
I’ll leave the gates open for a bit, but I’m going to be half afk making some food and stuff.

My daughters want some amiibo cards for AC:NH… does anybody have those? I’m looking for options but I can’t tell what works with AC:NH.

Do they want the cards qua cards, or do they just want to invite the animals they want to their islands?
I think any Amiibo card (not e-reader card) for a villager that’s in the game should be compatible. If they just want to pick their villagers, it’s probably cheaper to spoof them (either with writable NFC tokens or the Joy-Con Droid app.)
