This is correct. I got my Amiibo cards when they were first released, and they work with ACNH. I’m pretty sure they’re not specific to any one game.

What they really want are the figures, but we bought one only to find out you can’t use it with the game. Would have been nice if that were made clearer by Nintendo.

Which figure did you get? Because some are “uninvitable” characters in general because they’re “special” characters. Regular villagers should all work, I’d imagine, but I don’t have any experience with the actual figures.

She really wanted and used her allowance to get the Celeste figure, which is uninvitable. Evidently, you can do something with it on Harv’s island?

Ah yeah, Celeste would definitely be one of the special characters, so you wouldn’t be able to invite her to the campsite. I haven’t done anything with Harv’s island past the first visit though, so I don’t know anything about that.

I finally started the slow-slow-slow process of moving my villagers to nicer homesteads instead of having them all uncomfortably bunched together.

With some nice yards of their own, even.

I believe every Amiibo card (except the eReader ones, as mentioned) works with New Horizons. Prices seem to have gone up a lot for unopened packs on Amazon, eBay, etc., but Nintendo of Japan is putting a new system in place for ordering reprints of all the sets. Hopefully they make reprints available in the U.S. as well.

I really don’t like the system they have for inviting new characters. There are two categories of figures:

  1. Uninvitable (I think Kapp’n is in this category): You use the Amiibo and get a message, “This Amiibo figure is not currently supported.”

  2. Uninvitable with a tease (Celeste, Blathers, etc.): You use the Amiibo, and then the character comes up. It asks if you want to invite her to your island, and she says, “Oh, sorry, I can’t actually be invited to your island!” Then why did you ask if I wanted to invite her…

Also, Harv’s Island lets you set up photoshoots with your characters: any of the villagers on the island, or any Amiibos you want to scan in. Go to the island, talk to Harv, go to a room, scan the Amiibo. Not only can you pose and dress the character however you like, but then you can also buy a poster of that character when you get back to the island.

Awesome, thanks!

Congrats on the blue rose! One thing that’s confused me about the flower breeding is the assorted charts that list what you need to breed together isn’t always 100% clear to me, because I think it misses out some of the “possibles”. But I know that you need to breed red “bred” roses for blue, but black roses are from red roses from seeds. What I’m unsure of is whether there’s a chance to get a black rose from the bred red roses as well. I would assume yes, but that’s just an assumption.

I’ve got about 5 or so black roses I think, but am a long way off from blue, because I’m still working on getting the purples so I can make proper bred reds.

Yep, the blue came from ‘bred’ red roses. My seed red roses haven’t even bloomed yet (where I plan to breed black ones). So I guess it’s not very surprising really.

I’ll put the tl;dr first: You can’t just pick up a random flower and have any idea what its genetics are, so you can’t really say whether a given red rose can breed to create blue or black. The breeding guides are the most reliable way to control the genes of your flowers to get predictable results.

Now the long version:

This document is still the best reference for flower breeding: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1anxm3WwEKyh0_-l_lZIAUETaa_q432Px3griacQ3NcU/edit#heading=h.wa7maesceo2

There’s also a spreadsheet that shows the genetics that lead to each color type. I’ll try to find it again. But until then, let me see if I can explain which flowers can lead to black roses:

The only genetic combinations that lead to black roses are (for genes Red Yellow White Shade):

RRyywwss (2000)
RRyyWwss (2010)
RRyyWWss (2020)
RRYyWWss (2120)

And the genes for Seed Reds are:

RRyywwSs

So if you remember your Punnett Squares from Biology, the only possible results from Seed Red x Seed Red are:

RRyywwSS (Pink) (25% of the time)
RRyywwSs (Red) (50% of the time)
RRyywwss (Black) (25% of the time)

But you can crossbreed those flowers all the live-long day and you’ll never get a Purple or a Blue, because those flowers have no YY or WW genes.

About whether you can get a Black rose from a bred Red rose: It depends on the genetics of that specific Red. If you have two Reds that are genetically RRYyWwSs, then technically they could breed and give you Blue (RRYYWWss) or Black (RRYyWWss) or even Purple (RRYyWWSS). But there are two problems: A) Blue and Purple have about a 1/32 chance of happening in that case, and B) there’s not a reliable way to tell if your Bred Red actually has those genes. It could be (for example) RRWWYYSs, which will never generate a Black rose by itself.

My turnip prices have gone from 135 to 161 today, so it looks like I’m due for a large spike tomorrow morning (Wednesday). I will be up at 8am PDT to check the prices, so watch this space! Nook on wood!

Yeeeeee

I’m stuck on a very modest fluctuating curve this week. I also didn’t invest much (only 1500), but my gf is pretty in this week to finish paying off her house and start moving villagers around to fit her vision for the island.

She’s been drawing on printed phone camera snaps of our island map with crayons for several days, perfecting her vision. It’s adorable and also mildly intimidating to me as a design sense idiot, haha.

Does this mean:

  1. 1500 Bells
  2. 1500 Turnips
  3. 1500 stacks of 100 turnips?

I plowed about 350K into turnips this week, so hopefully it pays off!

All I know is I have at least 1 pair of red roses that can produce blue :)

1500 turnips! Down from my usual 3k. But my house is paid off so at this point I’m just being silly and buying the gold plaque items at my shop.

According to forecasts I’m also due for a spike tomorrow morning, which will be convenient for me not to have to make multiple trips to a different island ( I sunk about 2 million into turnips this week) I won’t be up at 8 but I’ll post here if I get a good number.

just don’t mind the mess and the wretched conditions of the villager ghetto, in the middle of major island renovations

@Knightsaber That doc is a bit out of date actually. there is a quicker method for getting to blues now with a 25% chance of success: Try this out:

There is one step in there that takes some testing of a flower breed. but once you have a guaranteed good purple at that step You are pretty much guaranteed blues.

I am waaaaay too far into the ‘slow’ blue rose path to tear it all down now, though.
