It’s a lot of work, though. You got 20 minutes free?

Yup! If you’re there to guide me, I’m up for it.

I can just open the gate, you don’t need a code. One minute while I navigate the menus.

Okay, gate is open for Caprica.

After today’s nightmare I’ll probably just solo water the flowers, even if it takes a year.

Aw. I find watering very relaxing. Happy to help whenever it works out with my schedule. I’m on my way!

To be fair, Nicholas Kole is a professional concept artist. But even so, his island is…wow.

Thank you, Friar.

Although I have to tell you, your watering can aim is nearly as bad as my trying to dig a hole in a specific spot with a shovel.

And that might be the last time I open the gates for a very long time.

Haha. I have a ton of joy con drift on my left stick with no way to repair it… but that’s not really the reason why. I just don’t seem to have the proper technique! But I’m glad I got to see the infamous blue rose.

My super magical lucky I’m not sure how I even got it blue rose was happy to see you too.

I am sorry that my networking issues have ruined the game for you. But I get it.

No way that it was you. It was my highly inefficient watering technique that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Observing me in all my true glory was… difficult for poor Knightsaber.

You all are so funny.

Nook’s crotch goblins are selling a white grand piano on my island today for 260k, if anyone is interested.

If you want to know the actual reason, it goes something like this.

Spend half the day being told by adult-children how to ‘properly’ play Animal Crossing.

Have friend @Scotch_Lufkin kindly open his gates for Qt3 and friends to sell turnips on his island. Not one person left him a tip or an item as a thank you. (Did anyone even say thank you? Probably, maybe.)

Oh wait, as the first person there, I dropped my usual 99k stack of bells for Scott as a thank you for allowing to use your island to make almost 2 million bells.

But he didn’t even get it because someone stole it.

So why would I want to play fucking Animal Crossing with anyone that thinks these are the polite ways to go about it?

It’s fucking Animal Crossing not EVE or Rust.

I was under the apparently mistaken impression that folks here weren’t doing the tipping thing for other Qt3 folks. I personally wouldn’t expect any from anyone here. I apologize if I was mistaken.

That said, I did send a greeting when I arrived and I said thank you when I left, and I even watered several of his flower fields while I was there (which I posted above).

But I thought the whole point of this thread was for a smaller group of people to play with each other without expectations… you know, casually, like Animal Crossing was meant to be. Again, I apologize if I was wrong.

Then I’m wrong. Okay, that’s fine. I usually am.

Edit: That doesn’t make a tip a free-for-all, no matter our expectations. Someone straight up stole 99,000 bells I left for Scott.

It’s fine, it was just an observation I made and then he pointed out that he did drop some money for me that someone must have walked off with, which is pretty gross. It was also a lot more work than I had assumed, having to keep the system awake and keep it running nearby so I could keep an eye on it is more than I had realized, so my thanks to @NuclearWinter for hosting last week when now I know how much of a PITA that is.

I never asked for tips, I didn’t really expect them, but part of me was surprised when I had over a dozen people come and go (one person four times) and no one tipped, which I had previously read was pretty customary, and I assumed that was again due to having to be vigilant in keeping your system up and running.

EDIT: I also just realized that the idea we don’t need to tip each other or show our gratitude in whatever way we feel is warranted just because we are a smaller group is… kind of absurd, now I think more about it.

We’ve had some light and very occasional discussion in this thread about this being more a community of friends than, say, the big exchanges or discord servers where people post up turnip bounties and such, so previously, people had mentioned not wanting tips to be given. Some folks did so anyway, self included a couple of times, heh.

I am sorry that it wasn’t the most pleasant of experiences, and moreso that someone walked off with the bells. That sucks a lot. Your helping out by sharing and staying available in the thread is exactly the kind of thing that makes this particular thread on Qt3 one of my favorite parts of it, so I’m pretty sad that it wound up being a somewhat negative experience :(

(edit: and if not stated previously, thank you for making space/time for both my partner and I yesterday. I know I wasn’t sure if you were actually present, and she’s pretty crazy socially anxious, so I’m guessing you didn’t even get much in the way of friendly messages :( )

On the bright side, my blue rose cloned itself and I have won the game.

My recollection of the ‘tipping’ thing here was that it was nice, but not expected. At least that’s what I recall the gist of that part of this thread was. Still, I think I’ve tipped something every time except maybe this last one due to trying to get in before the price changed and doing breakfast IRL. I recall looking for a place to drop some bells, but don’t recall the actual drop.

When I open I generally post a dodo code and post it here. It’s open to anyone but I’m assuming it’s just Qt3ers and fam that partake. Which is fine. Tips are cool, but not required or expected from my side of the equation.

edit: I did wonder about people stealing any tips or whatever. I don’t have any sort of elaborate fencing to keep folks out of a particular area, but I only post my dodo code here so I’m pretty sure I’m safe.
