Saw Sacred Seven on hulu+ last night. I’m intrigued after one episode. We’ll see how it does. I keep getting close to watching Tiger & Bunny, but then skipping. Dunno why.

edit: Wrong thread.

But anyone that hasn’t seen Tiger & Bunny yet needs to. It’s what Hancock tried to do with superheroes (and failed) but it’s great.

Once I got over the ridiculously stupid name, Tiger & Bunny is definitely one of my favorite shows of the last season. I’d highly recommend it as well.

Well Deadman Wonderland had a lame ending, are they doing a season 2?

I just watched Penguin Drum myself.

I’m getting the same vibe that I got from Madoka- lots of potential both ways to be good, bad, or as overhyped as Evangelion (Madoka was good but overhyped)

Watched the first (hour-long) episode of Kamisama no Memochou last night. I was initially put off by it being a JC Staff series, but it’s looking to be rather atypical of their usual work and was quite interesting. I don’t know if they can keep that going for the rest of the season, but I’ll be following along. It has something of a mystery/detective vibe to it while retaining an overarching sense of darkness.

So I watched this Disney Presents cartoon movie called Spirited Away with English dubbing. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Interesting thing about this new reboot of Blood – Saya apparently isn’t vampiric yet. She’s just an ordinary person with a high level of training in swordfighting. The intro depicts her vampire form, though, so it’s inevitable that she’ll be turned at a later point, but in comparison to Blood+ and Blood: The Last Vampire where Saya was already a vampire, it’s interesting to watch how hard she struggles just to win a battle against a single opponent. One thing that I like is that so far it’s not boring at all. The contrast between Day-Saya and Night-Saya is stark, and it works. The animation is particularly good so far for a Production I.G. series.

Watch Howl’s Moving Castle next. The dub is quite good, and believe it or not Christian Bale does an amazing job of voicing Howl.

The first episode of Dantalion was excellent. Great art, animation, and characters. It felt like someone took a Spice & Wolf brush to it all, which makes me think it’s going to be all about how the two interact in the future. Thumbs up. Oh, and A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives #1 was surprisingly well-done. It leans heavy on fanservice but I had fun with it. It’s also heavily censored, though, with the typical white glowy lights blurring out the naughty bits (even a typical panty-shot scene, but I guess they did it because it was like 20 panty shots at once). DVD sales, ahoy!

Japan is killing me. Niconico is streaming anime now. And having the ability to deface the video with my stupid comments means I am watching shit I would never watch if it wasn’t on Niconico. Stupid stupid stupid.

Oh well. I’m watching Kaiji Season 2, Tiger & Bunny, No. 6, Mawaru Penguin Drum, Natsume Yuujinchou San, and Gintama right now. Outside of horrible bullcrap on niconico.

I haven’t checked out Mawaru Penguin Drum yet, but I think I will today. More Tiger & Bunny plz thx!

edit: My watch list: Dantalion no Shoka, Tiger & Bunny, Kamisama no Memo-chou, No. 6, Kamisama Dolls, Blood-C, A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives, Sacred Seven, and Steins;Gate. Two of those are continuations from last season, though.

Penguin Drum is amazing.

Tiger & Bunny is DEPRESSING AS HELL NOW goddamn I should have realized that the ED change was signalling a change in tone.

I think that was intended. The heartbreak of a certain character, the rise of another, the “ouch” moment with Tiger. It’s handling its characters well. I think Bunny needs a bit more meat as far as characterization, but I absolutely love it when the duo really team up and work as equals.

Unfortunately, that usually only happens when Bunny is outmatched. Less of that, and I’d be a bit happier.

I really love the whole Hero family. All of them are so likable. And now the latest episode even has me feeling for Lunatic. The writing for this show is really top tier.

Tweets from the show’s staff definitely points towards Bunny getting a lot more development shortly.

I had the same feeling towards Lunatic. I kept thinking “why should I feel that this guy might not be so bad?” That said, Fire Emblem remains my favorite. It’s impossible to dislike him, plus he has a kickass car and animated cape.

And he’s so sweet about mothering everyone! Nathan has no right to be as awesome as he is, but every time he shows up he just gets better. Kotetsu is my favorite overall, but I adore Sky High and I really like the rest.

Kotetsu is great – how can you not identify with the guy? Sky High/Keith appeals to the “true” hero we all want to be. He’s very much like The Rocketeer, in that he uses tech to fly, but differs in the fact that he can use his air powers like a true superhero. He embodies that ideal perfectly, right down to the catch-phrases.

As we’ve seen of the last ep, though, he’s not Superman. He can break.

I also can’t help but feel bad for Rock Bison, too. Poor guy has fucked up almost every time since the beginning. He’s got a pretty cool power, too! It’s really all about aging heroes vs. the new batch, and that gives the series such a great dynamic – the older ones have the wisdom to teach, whereas the younger ones just go all-out. Tiger is the unique exception to this; he doesn’t consider himself an aging hero, he still feels as if it was decades ago. The depressing new reveal regarding him is a major downer, though.

Poor Rock Bison and Origami Cyclone really have very situational powers, and neither one of them seems to be very good at thinking out how to get into those situations. Everyone else has pretty good offensive power.

I love Sky High because I saw “blonde american hero in anime? I bet he’s going to be a dick,” and was totally delighted to be wrong. And he has a golden retriever. His spotlight episode was definitely a tear jerker. He’s so lonely.

I hope we get to see Tiger teaching at the Next Academy or something if his storyline plays out the way it seems likely to play out. He fathers everyone he meets anyway, he’d be good at guiding people who have just discovered their superpowers.

I thought the same thing about Sky High when I saw the last episode. Poor guy. He just wants companionship. The last pan-out of him sitting alone on the bench with the flowers was just too much.

I actually don’t want to see Kotetsu at The Academy. He definitely seemed to inspire people in a way Barnaby couldn’t, but it just isn’t him. I have a feeling his powers will increase to exceed Bunny’s by far, but I don’t know what he’ll be when they dwindle and die. I’d like to see him with his daughter, being the father he can’t be right now, and living out his life with her. His final moments as a hero will probably win him a season, and then he’ll simply disappear.

I hope for an episode after Kotetsu loses his ability and finally tells his daughter that he was Wild Tiger. She thinks he’s a chump. Time to lose that stupid secret identity.
