I’ve heard some rumors of a second season for T&B but haven’t seen confirmation yet. I would be fairly surprised if there was no sequel given how popular the show got.

I know that the director said he would love to go back and fill in the 10 months where Kotetsu and Barnaby were working as a team, whether it be through a second season or a series of OAVs.

I liked latest episode a lot, though I had to laugh at the Spikey Rooms of Doom.

Quitch, Blue Rose is 16. Kotetsu’s age has never been outright stated, but the director said that he was closest in age to one of the voice actors who is 34. Fandom estimates that he is 36-37.

I can’t imagine filling in those ten months would be very exciting. You know how it turns out for everyone and they clearly get on the whole time. How would that be interesting material besides adventure of the week?

Yeah but you know that nothing changes between them at the end of the period, so it would be like one of those filler arcs in long running anime.

Damn, I finished the manga of Usagi Drop and now it’s retrospectively ruined. One of the worst ending ever, and that’s saying something for Japanese media. Now I’m glad the TV series is going to cut off much earlier in the plot: it’s better that way.

Hoping Kaiji doesn’t disappont as well… (zawa)

Yeah, hearing about the ending to Usagi Drop spoiled any desire I had to watch the anime, which sucks.

I doubt Kaiji will disappoint. I have a lot of faith in Fukumoto as a writer.

To be fair, the anime is quite good if considered independently. But yeah, you have to pretend the story doesn’t end that way, or everything seems ridiculous and slightly creepy at the same time.

Up to about episode 12 or so of Stiens;Gate (maybe 11).

Wow.

This one is a keeper :) No stupid battle robots, or increasingly powerful abilities, or retcons of episodes three prior, or story elements pulled from the backside of the writers so that “cool shit” can happen. This is just an excellent mix of good writing, characterisation, drama, humour and a hint of tragedy (which will only increase I expect).

If it keeps up I really think this is going to supplant Death Note as my favourite anime. It never feels like it slaps my face with something stupid, every episode is building beautifully on the episodes which came before it. I was worried at one point it was going to become D-Mail of the week, but it side-steps that problem, changing tangent at just the right time. I love every character and all the little quirks which make them so distinctive from one another.

If I looked really deep I’m sure I could find a couple of nits, like for someone who worked in a hostile American lab that girl is a little too fragile. The “love interest” development is a little too clichéd and predictable. Everyone is a little too fond of the main character off the bat, which is main character syndrome. But really, if that’s the best I can do this is pretty damn fine entertainment.

And that sequence in (episode 12?) where he gets the head picture and the whole animation style changes as he dashes back to the flat, desperation permeating every frame, was just awesome. The mad scientist is growing a little more distant, sharing a little less with the lab than he did in earlier episode, I see this being a downhill journey for him.

Every day I’m itching to get home and check out the next episode :)

Steins Gate is great, keep watching. It does have a pair of ‘not-that-good’ or ‘too repetitive’ episodes later, but mostly it does have a good consistent quality, and near the end the quality raises even more.

Um… yeah it was. Not to spoil but I kept waiting for it all to be a computer program for sick people or something.

I really liked the show and the concept. It was a little preachy at the end, but man the characters were all so awesome. The end made me go wtf and I heard there was a second season, but I don’t know how you’d do that.

Elfen Lied - I’m two episodes in. I’m not sure about this one. I don’t mind the violence but the extreme violence followed by the extreme cuteness are a bit much.

This thread is great as I was trying to find a particular anime and couldn’t remember the name. I only remember one frame and I stumbled upon it… Ergo Proxy. Any good, because the animation looks awesome?

Started listing anime up 50 not including the list of up and coming listed on page 8 of the thread. I have now hit the Gundam wall for 4 pages.

Ergo Proxy is…weird. I think overall I enjoyed it, but it can be glacially paced at times and I never worked out quite what all was going on.

Ergo Proxy is a bunch of interesting ideas strung together with poor to middling execution. I say it’s worth is for the quiz show episode, but don’t let the first episode raise your expectations too much.

Death Note should have ended the way the movies did. After the L arc, it got pretty ridiculous, although it did have Mikami. They should have had Light die at the end of the L arc and then done a whole second season just with Mikami because I loved that crazy fucker. Steins;Gate is great, but I’m not sure it can top the scene of Yagami Light conducting an orchestra of death with his pen.

I don’t know, imo both Death note and Ergo proxy are way overrated. If you want serious business in your anime there are titles like Texhnolyze or Jin-roh that do away with the silly shounen elements and keep the adult plot.

Mikami btw was a great character but too dumb (and not nearly bishounen enough) to be a protagonist in that show.

Someday I should go back and give Texhnolyze another shot, because it lost me at episode 3 or so and I never finished it.

Really, I just want more gambling anime. I could watch Akagi, Kaiji, and One Outs on loop.

I thought the movie ending didn’t match that of the anime. I can see why some people would prefer it, Near and Me…llow(?) were no match for L and were never developed very well, but it did mean that we didn’t trundle into an incredibly predictable ending where the adversaries finally meet, the way it had played out until then, and the fate of L, really meant anything could have happened. If they hadn’t dealt with L at that point then really they would have needed to wrap it up there because, really, how long could L be that close and not break the case without looking dumb? Indeed, Kira underestimates his opponent precisely because they AREN’T L.

I loved the way it came to a close and rather than being more like the films I wish it had done a better job differentiating and developing the replacements.

If I had to make a change it would be to dump that waste of space arc in the middle which lasted six episodes and achieved almost nothing.

Mikami was a great addition to the last. KAMI!
