I just recommend to watch again episode 1. Even more just before or just after Episode 23, you will see why…
Still, i believe there is some plot holes in the story. It’s what happens when you have a convoluted story about time travel. Time paradoxes and confusing world shifting are a bitch for narrative.
GitS isn’t boring, it’s just very slow, so I can understand why you’d think it’s boring. Did you watch the entire series?
Death Note isn’t my deal, but I have liked the few episodes I’ve seen. Appleseed is much the same. Never heard of Casshern.
But dear god, you call Bebop boring? Heathen.
Are you into Giant Mech stuff? If so, I suggest Code Geass, Big O, and Gundam 00.
If you like blue gender, the most similar anime i can think of is Gasaraki. It shares a lot of the same elements, except for the lack of a post apocalyptic setting.
On the other hand, one of my favorite mech anime is Armored Trooper Votoms, but it is an old one and I am in the minority in preferring mechs to be more… realistic and less “one small mech can instantly destroy a battle station the size of a planet with a look (ie gundam) while winning dancing with the stars at the same time.”
Death note kind of goes against conventional wisdom in that the main character is the “bad guy” so i can see it not appealing to some people. Code Geass is somewhat similar, but i never really felt the same way about the main character. I also stopped watching death note after the first “story arc” ended.
Casshern sins is a strange and sometimes incomprehensible anime that likes to throw on the symbolism in sometimes dangerous amounts. I like it in spite of that though.
Appleseed: this is one of those “mech” series that uses the horrendous looking CG effects in anime i think. I hate that.
When he called Gits, Appleseed and Cowboy Bebop boring… well, i didn’t bother to answer him.

(-:
I watch all episodes at least once every year. And I cry every time. Is a very sad story and is very well told. People that can’t watch gore should not watch it, of course, but It will be sad, because is a very good anime.
Other good anime is this:
And everything from Ghibli.

I would caution maxle away from Gasaraki, it’s a slow series, slower than GitS, which at least has comprehensible intrigue. I liked the semi realistic bent on the mechs, but everything else about the series turned me off.
I agree with Code Geass, its well paced, though does escalate in such a way that the mechs & pilots become super heroes.
I agree with you Murbella, I like my mech’s a bit more grounded in reality, not just replacing the tights for metal plates. It’s a shame you don’t see much of that anymore. Though they still make Votoms, there have been a few OVAs that are a bit newer than the original.
Appleseed (the new one) suffered from poorly rendered (come on render it at 60fps, not this 12 fps BS, it looks so bad!), along with a terrible plot.

Which episode of Bebop did Maxle watch? There are definitely some slow ones, and I think the series takes a few episodes to assemble most of the crew.

Why assume he means Ghost in the Shell Standalone Complex, the two season TV series, when I would wager most people are more familiar with the original movie? Which I personally think is a confusing mess, far surpassed by the series.

That’s what I was wondering. The original movie (and even the second one) weren’t very good. GitS:SAC was fantastic, though.

Considering how short it is it must improve quickly. The characters in the first episode and a half were thick as shit and I couldn’t take any more.

Don’t expect that to change, should you ever feel remotely compelled to pick it up again.
Here is the giant list of recommended anime from /a/. I don’t love everything on here, but I would agree that everything on the list is a great example of its genre and stands the test of time.
Oh, no, Elfen lied. The only value that series has is its usefulness as an idiot test.
The list is pretty good. Nobody will like everything on it, but all the shows have some little thing that sets them apart. But the absence of ghibies is weird.

I’m fairly sure that /a/ draws a distinction between episodic series and standalone movies, in which case Ghibli’s works would be disqualified from this particular list.
Yeah, there’s different lists for movies, manga, and I think OAVs.

Wow, I can actually picture Steins;Gate finishing with 22 and what a different ending that would have been from what they’re (over?) reaching for. Can’t wait for 24.

Yes, I was talking about the GitS movie, not the series. Same deal with Appleseed. No idea which Bebop episode I saw, or even which season it was from. Which certainly contributed to me not liking it.
A lingering fondness for childhood memories of Battletech, Heavy Gear, and Exo-Squad means I do like mechs, yes.
Thanks, everyone.
Code Geass then. Great mechs, though as others said, it turns Superhero-ish towards end of frst, into the second season. However the characters are almost all tolerable to great.
Also; I liked the GitS movies. The TV series is so much better though. You should definitely give that a chance.
mecha, eh? I’d always recommend Shinkon Gettai Godannar for its 21st century serious-tribute of old school 70s robot shows.
But wait. This 2009 Mazinger retelling does it even better!
There’s only one season of Bebop. The first episode isn’t particularly good, but I think the rest is brilliant and worth another go.
