I will hold on to life long enough to see all 39 episodes subbed.

Spoken like a true aesthete.

I think the Huzzah subs are pretty useless. If it has to be a random guess I may as well come up with my own. Looks like it will be a second Souten Kouro, good show but not glamorous enough to get decent fansubbing groups interested, until perhaps an unusually bad season comes up freeing some of their time.

So, I’m in the middle of Season 3 of Fringe, does it really have the EXACT same plot of Steins;Gate? (I haven’t watched SG yet, but what I know of the plot and themes is basically the same)

No. Not even close.

So, Elfen Lied… what the fuck is wrong with the people that made this?

I’ve ignored the thread and been watching Chaos;Head… hmmmm. It starts out rather intriguing and I love watching this guy completely fail to handle any of it. Then, around episode 7 or 8, it suddenly starts vomiting BS out of the screen in place of a satisfying explanation and I’ve only just found that it’s only 12 episodes so really no satisfying wrap-up seems likely. Complete, yes; satisfying, no.

Still, it has been enjoyable enough.

It’s probably a better idea to play the Visual Novel, I heard the anime is quite horrible compared to it.

The visual novel is pretty great as of Chapter 7, though I will reserve judgment until I actually finish it. (And even then there’s endings A, AA and B and I have no idea if I have that kind of patience.)

Unless you’re using a guide, you almost certainly don’t have the patience for it. I know I didn’t.

The visual novel was still far and away better than the anime, though.

I’ve been watching High School of the Dead.

Not bad. Lots of blood and zombies.

Man, I liked the concept of this one. Zombies, and High School, sounds like a good mix right? But it quickly gets terrible, completely bogged down by harem anime tropes and embarrasingly excessive fan service. I think its only 12 eps, and I don’t think I got more than half way.

You must not have hit the episode where it instantly turns into shit (6 or 7, can’t remember). Hint: it takes place almost entirely in a bathroom.

Yeah, I’ve seen the bathroom scene. And I can overlook the harem stuff. Mini-Cyn just stares slack jawed at those parts.

But I sure do enjoy the zombie violence. It’s nicely done as animation goes.

Seems like there’s a lot of normal teen issues being delt with also. Like the chubby kid actually being useful instead of the slow moving first target for the zombies and <sigh> young love.

Like I said it isn’t bad.

I’ve been rewatching Death Note on a binge after hearing about the upcoming Guilty Crown; it’s a product involving some former Death Note and Code Geass dudes, with animation done by Production I.G. (they do Ghost in the Shell: SAC).

drool

If you can get past the egregious fan service - and geez does it ever get egregious - HOTD is brainless bloody fun. Gets pretty over-the-top pretty quickly after the halfway point; whether that’s a pro or con depends on your tastes in zombie action fare.

Oh, does it ever. By far my main obstacle to actually getting anything out of the show was the fact that it can’t go more than thirty seconds without some ridiculous fanservice bit. I know it’s not supposed to be a super serious piece of zombie fiction, but it’s all so unnecessary.

I’ve been watching Blue Comet SPT Layzner, an older (1985), mech anime. It never was fully translated, but someone started translating it a while ago and it is now 23/38.

So far i’ve liked it quite a bit. The story has a number of similarities to other anime. Such as the main character being a member of an alien race attacking the earth, but he betrays them to warn humanity. Other more spoilerish ones as well are similar to some gundam stuff. Of course, going by the dates, this one is not just following established trends since it came out first.

It also has a main character who doesn’t want to kill anyone even though he is fighting armies. This is similar to a number of gundam series, but somehow he comes off as slightly less annoying. Make no mistake though, this is not a bloodless anime. The main character might not want to kill, but he doesn’t always have a choice in the matter and more importantly, nobody else has a problem with killing.

Blue Comet could be interesting, I might have to take a peek. Though I really should search a bit harder to find the original Votoms.
