The end of Chaos;Head was awesome, the way it highlighted how they had failed to explore any of the interesting avenues.

Now, because I hate myself, I’m ignoring the forum again and watching Angel Beats. Great opening episode. I smell another Chaos;Head experience :)

Chaos;Head wishes it could be even half as good as Angel Beats.

I liked chaos head and angel beats personally.

I think most people here liked angel beats as well, but could be wrong. It was certainly a popular series though.

They aren’t too similar though and I agree with Otagan that angel beats is better (although perhaps not twice as good). Angel beats is much lighter and even when it is sad, it is more in a touching way than in a… for lack of a better term, mind fuck way. The main character in angel beats is also the most sane person in the series as opposed to the one in chaos head who is… not.

JoshV: Even though i enjoy blue comet, Votoms, being one of the best mech series of all times, is noticeably better.

I liked Angel Beats as well, though I can’t quite put my finger on why. I guess it was just quirky & offbeat enough - with its combination of humor, pathos, and just plain weirdness - to be more engaging and endearing than I had expected. I even liked the stupid J-pop songs, which is increasingly rare these days.

I do wish they’d stop calling them rock songs though :)

Final episode of Kaiji season 2 was perfection. Loved the cameos, loved that they used the first season opening music, loved all the damned moe. Hopefully Madhouse doesn’t make us wait 4 years for the next Fukumoto adaptation. They are already saying they want to do Akagi S2 and that Nihon TV wants to air it.

I don’t think anyone else has posted it yet, so without adieu this is the fall 2011 lineup.

Yeah, there’s not a huge amount of stuff I am looking forward too. This is my list to try out unless I hear that something is super good or super bad:

Boku wa Tomodachi
Chihayafuru (Madhouse? Competitive card game? Of course I am there)
Un-Go
Kimi to Boku (the manga is cute and relaxing)
Guilty Crown
Persona 4
Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi 2nd Season
Phi Brain
Lupin III (FUCK YEAH please don’t suck)

And Matt wants to check out Ben-To so I’ll be seeing it too.

And I will still be watching Natsume Yuujinchou San, Mawaru Penguindrum, and Gintama.

Hmm, the new Last Exile could be interesting. Other than that, nothing jumped out at me. Lupin could be worth watching too.

I’ve read a number of the manga this season’s anime is based on so I am looking forward to a lot of them. mirai nikki for example, is one i am a big fan of, even if the ending seemed rushed. If you actually watched the pitiful excuse for a teaser ova they released before, i wouldn’t let that sour you on an actual full blown tv series as it just blows through a lot of chapters in a half-assed way.

Sadly, if Deadman Wonderland is any indication, Mirai Nikki will not be watchable until a dvd release. The censorship (of violence, not fan service) in the first couple episodes of deadman wonderland was simply too annoying (I feel like i am watching doom 3 gameplay here because it is all black!) for me to watch it and Mirai Nikki is anything but tame.

As the only person here who liked Shakuagan no Shana, i will be watching that too, as well as the fantasy version.

I wanted to like Shakugan no Shana, but the ratio of good aspects to utter garbage is too heavily skewed to keep me watching. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I’ll be damned if I get fooled a third time.

Now watch it actually be good, somehow.

Fall season:

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai
Chihayafuru
Hidamari Sketch
Working!!
Last Exile (at least to watch later, won’t watch as it airs)
Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon
Fate/Zero
Guilty Crown
Purse-owner 4
Tamayura - Hitotose
C3

I’m sure I’ll add and drop a selection, as well. That’s how it always goes. Overlook something good, pick up something with zero redeeming qualities. Half the fun of the first week of the season is trying to track all of those down.

Looking forward to Guilty Crown and the new Last Exile. Not sure about anything else, although the Hunter X Hunter remake might be interesting. I absolutely loved that show 10 years ago, but I don’t know if my palette has changed to the point I won’t like it anymore.

edit: oooh Scryed Remastered is on that list. That I’ll definitely watch.

Exactly what I was thinking. What gets me is that right now there is nothing on for me, nor will there be for quite some time. This has never happened before…

I haven’t watched any Steins Gate though, and from what I hear I should be good to go with that!

Isn’t the scryed remastered just a short movie recap of the entire series? Probably better off just watching the actual series instead. I can’t recall ever seeing a recap movie being anywhere near as good as the actual series.

I was kind of surprised that they even made a remastered version as I didn’t think scryed was that popular. I did like it though personally and thought it was underrated.

I am a heathen, but Scryed is still my fave to this day. It has a scene where I get choked up every time. We all know the one. If it’s simply a wide-screen HD remaster condensed into long OVAs, then yeah I’m not on board. Maybe I should just watch my DVDs instead.

“What the hell is wrong with you?! It’s ok to cry, dammit!”

Mawaru Penguindrum 12. MY BRAIN. I love how many WHAT?s per episode I get with this show.

Well that’s Angel Beats! finished. Definitely peaked with episode 5, that was just such a great episode and after that it (oddly for such a short anime) just lost its way, stumbling around never really moving with the clear purpose it had in those first five episodes again. A shame really, because the basic idea was excellent. It did end on a high note though, a great send off, I just wish the second to last episode had allowed for a better send off of some of the secondary characters. I did like the way they kept changing the end credits shot though, and the opening credits in episode 3, that was a nice touch.

Is the OVA worth checking out, or will it just ruin the ending?

Do you want to see 23 straight minutes of the crew’s zany antics? If so, then go ahead. I say it’s worth watching if that sounds even remotely appealing.

I found that there’s an alternate epilogue episode as well. Should I watch that before the OVA or after?

It’s five minutes long. As long as you’ve seen the main ending, you can watch it at any time. The OVA will have zero interactivity with it.
