Owari no Chronicle and Kyoukaisen-jou no Horizon are two parts of a total of six that are all set in the same universe. Owari is the pre-prequel to Horizon.
There’s a lot of it.

It kinda blows the mind if you think:
- That this thing exists.
- That it doesn’t merely exist, but it is successful. Manga adaptation plus two anime seasons so far by Sunrise. And I think the novel is popular too.
- That it’s aimed mostly at KIDS. I mean, it’s one story, so you have to read it all. This means that there are LOTS of kids out there who have read these four MILLION words.

On the massive book series front, there’s also Guin Saga
Guin Saga is a best-selling heroic fantasy novel series by the Japanese author Kaoru Kurimoto, in continuous publication since 1979. A record 100 volumes were originally planned, but the final total stands at 130 volumes, the last four published posthumously, with 21 side-story novels.
Shame to hear they didn’t bring back Yoko Kanno.

I watched the Phantom series (Requiem for a Phantom) over the last week. At first it seemed like a soulless self-rip-off of Noir, but it grew on me over time. Satisfying ending, too. The silly happy-killers-enjoying-Japan opening credits for the final group of episodes threw me at first, but after a bit I thought even that made some sense.
End of an era: Hayao Miyazaki is retiring, capping off a half-century career.
On the horizon: Space Dandy is the next series from Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo). He’s returning to the space-opera genre, though clearly with a much more humorous vibe; it practically looks like a Bebop parody.
Any feedback on the fall season?
KILL la KILL: Carl Kimlinger from AnimeNewsNetwork says:
Hiroyuki Imaishi and his Gurren Lagann collaborators are hoping that lightning really can strike twice—if you replicate the circumstances correctly. blah blah… You can think of Kill la Kill as Imaishi and co.’s attempt to do for school combat what they did for giant robots.
Just watched eps 1, and came here to post this. Go watch it now!
While I’m here, I should complain about Gatchaman CROWDS, but I don’t know where to start. At least it’s really original, with none of the monster-of-the-week that all hero series falls into since they began in Japan.

The Guin Saga anime a few years back was very good as well.

I’ve seen virtually everything so far (as long as it’s not about baseball or cycling). KaoFloppy is right that you should watch KLK, but beyond that it’s hard to make recommendations because my tastes are so eclectic that I wouldn’t throw out any serious recommendations without knowing what people like. I’ll probably start abandoning things next week and can give much better feedback at that point.
As a counterpoint, Freezing Vibration (sequel to Freezing) is one of those school fighting anime that KILL la KILL is mocking. Freezing has got big-budget animated boobies going for it, with a brand new conspiracy plot being setup…it’s very so-so, even for a harem freak like me. (Can I confirm the big-budget-ness somewhere? It seems well animated, but under the level of Gatchaman CG stuff.) KILL la KILL just compresses into a single episode what other series would build up over an entire season or two.
Speaking of harem, my guilty pleasure in the past month was discovering High School DxD. Very NSFW, but pretty decent all-around once you look past the fanservice (good luck with that, it’s kind of impossible).

Also, there’s more Ippo. More Ippo is a good thing- and it has my favorite fight in the manga during this season, so even better.
It’s still a bit early to ask. Several shows start this week, in fact.

I’m just about done reading all the novels for this and let’s just say that there are no boundaries to how ridiculous the franchise can get. I also really want two more seasons (and thankfully current sales make a third look highly likely).
Been watching Attack on Titan, really digging it so far.
HNNNGGGGG YES!!! Had no idea Ippo was coming back, you just made my day. Love that manga and anime.

Just finished watching this over the weekend. I was impressed by the “no one is safe” feeling of the show. Very Game of Thrones level of “don’t fall in love with character X”.

Love Ippo!
My family likes Silver Spoons! Very good (about an agricultural high school). I hope there are more than the eleven episodes we have watched so far on crunchyroll.

The second half will start airing in January.
For new ongoing shows I’m watching Kill La Kill, and Hunter X Hunter.

Thanks! I am glad we really enjoy that show.
