It is probably well known here, but the original series was missing the final episode - it was never completed/aired.
Yep, those are the ones I meant. I wasn’t sure if they were released in theaters or as a TV miniseries of film length episodes.

The manga is still being actively written, so either way the anime had no way to actually conclude the storyline, since it hasn’t been concluded.
True, but the original anime series did not encompass the entire story, only the first arc or two, from memory. The Manga arcs told in the Anime were complete at the time, but the last episode of the Anime was never completed, which is why the last episode ends the series basically devoid of resolution.
Mind you the entire series is pretty much a flashback after the first episode. Can’t seem to find the info I read about episode 26 never being completed, though.
This is a great list! Throw Mushishi (strange and good, fantasy-ish) in there. Also Dennou Coil (sci fi) was good and I feel overlooked now.
Death Note started off interesting – I liked L and all that – but it seemed to be getting progressively more self-indulgent so eventually I gave up on it. The side novel by NisiOisiN is pretty good, though.
Recently finished:
Kill La Kill. It is absurd… but the story grew on me by about episode five.
Watching:
Beyond the borders - shrug The female main character drew me in on this one. Nice art and animation… don’t know if I’m sold on the story yet at ep4.
Majestic Prince - Enjoying this a lot. Plot reminds me of Martian Successor Nadesco and I like the mecha and art style.
I finished Psycho-Pass. Awesome series, looking forward to the next season.

Ughh…I ended up buying 18 volumes of Pandora Hearts. Just couldn’t hold back. Guess if I hate it I could resell it for a profit.

Yup, looks like the series is getting a lot of love. A re-edit of the first season which turns it into 11 one hour episodes with new footage airs in July. Season two in October. Then a movie next year.

I remember watching summer wars early on and thinking it was terrible in general with poor writing and poor art. I didn’t think anyone would actually like it because of that stuff.
I also remember being surprised that some people actually liked it with all of the problems it had.
I haven’t seen many of those on TurinTur’s list. Is that meant to be all-time general anime recommendations? But how about Noir, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Slayers, Bubblegum Crisis (various versions), Big O, Soul Eater, and Black Lagoon, just off the top of my head? I think those are better than a few of the ones I did see that are on the list.
Well, it’s kind of a nonsense list, since I assume the criteria was “recommend some anime”, which is a little like saying “what are some movies I should watch?” There’s no particular reason that somebody that enjoys Kino’s Journey would also enjoy Golden Boy, or that somebody who enjoyed Porco Rosso would also enjoy FLCL.
All time general recommendations yeah.
Why isn’t X on that list? Because I didn’t watch it or I didn’t like it, of course.
