If you are looking for some good light things to watch I heartily recommend Silver Spoons.

The complexity of that response mirrors my experience in trying to figure out what to watch, but it’s absolutely appreciated.

I THINK this is complete for what’s currently legally available. Bolded where they first appear on the list, italics for repeats:

Netflix has:

Iron-Blooded Orphans
UC (Unicorn)

Hulu has:

The 08th MS Team
00
SEED Remaster
The Origin
UC (Unicorn)
Iron-Blooded Orphans

Crunchyroll has:

Build Divers
Build Fighters
Mobile Fighter G Gundam
00
Iron- Blooded Orphans
Seed Remaster
Seed Destiny
The Origin
UC RE:0096
Wing
Wing: Endless Waltz (a one-off, apparently)

Uff, if you stick to those legally available there it’s impossible to get a good look.

I’d say then Iron Blooded Orphans, 8th MS Team and Seed remaster to get good series in 3 different timelines.

I agree with those - minus Seed :)

The original movie trilogy is still surprisingly watchable - I’d suggest watching that next if you enjoyed the 8th MS team.

So far I’m 6 episodes in without blinking on Iron-Blooded Orphans, and I have to say it’s pretty fantastic. I’ll leave the rest for my social distancing (work from home) my job has planned for everyone, which will get going within the next week or so.

Amazon has Blu Rays of the original series available; $92 ($46 a piece for disc 1 & 2) for 42 episodes total seems kinda steep. @Ex-SWoo - you mentioned the movies, and reading up on them they’re essentially compilations/improvements on the original series to bring it more in line with what came after, which sounds quite promising. Unfortunately, the English-dubbed versions seem insanely priced so I’ll have to do some more scouring.

Hm, I keep considering picking up a Crunchyroll sub for a month or two to watch some backlog stuff. This quarantine might be a good chance.

And if you don’t mind ads, Crunchyroll is free!

edit - you’ll probably mind the ads, however ;)

Mmm, I would not watch the compilation movies of the original series, but that’s just me.

Yes, the Blu Rays are expensive. At least you are not trying to get into Legend of the Galactic Heroes (links to $800 BluRay set).

The crunchyroll ads are pretty terrible.

Holy crap, LOL

They’re exceptionally bad, poorly placed and through some weird bit of tech on some devices drop the res of the show back down to like 240 and has to rebuffer after each ad break (the ads, oddly, come in at a normal resolution)

Looks like I-B Orphans is on Hulu, too. They also have ads if you’re not paying, but in my experience Hulu ads are at least placed in the right spots and don’t cause technical issues.

Heh, I waited YEARS for Yamato 2199 to stream, then finally imported a box set from Japan only to have it start streaming months later.

But I’ve been watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes on VRV (free with Crunchyroll premium and vice-versa)

New series or old series? I won’t start the new series until they finish the story…

The original. About halfway through, I think. It’s my current elliptical workout show.

Lay your heart down, onto the sea of the stars…

Please report back once you get to close to the end. This series is really interesting, I think…

Don’t know when it will be. Been doing a lot of weights and not as much on the elliptical. I like the show, though. Probably not for everyone, since it is very slow. Lots of political stuff. The way they present large scale warfare is rather cool.

If you like it know, I think you’ll love it by the end of series 3 or so…

I’m about a third of the way through season 3. Maybe I will get a chance to watch an episode tomorrow.

Ooooh. Do carry on then!
