I’m wayyy behind on anime. The last seasons I completed was the first season of ReZero, and then a long time before that was One Punch Man S1. Lots of shows to catch up on or try out.
Anyways, I just started watching Aggretsuko and love it so far. The concept of office lady Hello Kitty (I didn’t know Aggretsuko was actually from Sanrio) getting tired of everyone’s shit and hitting the breaking point just makes me laugh, especially the death metal karaoke scenes.
It’s interesting that the English dub feels almost like a different show than the Japanese version, since the westernized dialogue and jokes seem to be quite different in a lot of scenes.

Didnt realize Bleach was already makig a return. I imagine I’ll check it out for nostalgias sake. Like most Shonen shows i never liked the main characters too much, but loved the world building and side characters.

Ah, so they’re picking up where the anime ended.
If they intend to adapt the manga all the way to the end, I hope they make some revisions to the late story, because it devolved into pure incoherent nonsense at the end, even by manga standards. You could lay waste to half of Pern with all the dropped plot threads.
Just finished S1 for Demon Slayer. It had some great fight scenes. The orange haired guy screaming all the time got pretty old after the first minute of his introduction, but hopefully he matures in the later seasons. I was a bit disappointed that the elite slayers initially appear to be mostly assholes, unlike the ones in Naruto who I felt were more respectable and wise.
For post S1, I read that the movie and the Mugen Train arc (7 eps) cover mostly the same thing, with the movie maybe having some better animations for the fight scenes, and the TV eps having a little more story.
I’ll probably go ahead and watch both, but can anyone recommend watching one before the other?
Movie came out first. When in doubt: release order.
The movie was basically chopped up into six episodes and they added one episode as a prequel of sorts focused on one of the elites/Hashira. You can watch the prequel episode and then the movie, or just watch all seven eps. Or watch the movie and give yourself six breaks. The story is the same either way.
I would not recommend this, because the differences are minor edits and episodes 2-7 will basically feel like you are rewatching the movie but with enforced breaks.
Thanks, guys. I’ll go with the prequel ep + movie route. It was difficult to tell from people’s comments on the web about whether the actual animation was different between the movie and the episodes.
Any suggestions on what recent action/shounen series to watch next? Something that’s not a 100+ episodes to invest in. A couple of series I’ve found are Mob Psycho, Jujutsu Kaisen, World Trigger, and Summertime Render.
I really enjoy Fire Force.
I’m kind of liking the buzz around Chainsaw Man, but I’m not going to start watching it until there’s quite a few episodes to watch.
When is the last part of Attack on Titan supposed to air by the way? I think this time around, I want to rewatch the whole series again before I watch the parts that I haven’t seen yet. I only saw the first set of episodes from “The Final Season”, and I know I could watch the second set already, but I’ll wait.
Thanks! I’ll check this show out. I saw this mentioned once in a reddit thread asking about “fire anime” (fire, as in great), and I thought they were just joking…
I’ve read 2023 with no date announced yet. There’s a special event for this Nov 13 where people are guessing the date might be revealed. I have only seen S1 awhile back, so I plan to wait until after everything is done and watch everything from the beginning.
Re: other shounen, I liked Jujutsu Kaisen with its neat characters and how it plays around with shounen trops/conventions during the fights/tournament style stuff. The animation from Mappa is also really good in it – last year, JJK’s fights were my second-favorite / gorgeous animation besides the main fight in Demon Slayer’s Entertainment District Arc.
I recently started Mob Psycho based on the new season and also how it’s a fun/different kind of show from ONE.

The animation in Chainsaw Man is really well done. You notice it at the very first frame. I also enjoyed Jujutsu Kaisen.
Watched the Demon Slayer train arc (ep1 + movie) last night. Wow, the animation for fight scenes has progressed a long way since I last watched anime. Inosuke’s (boar kid) dream was the best, haha.
Afterwards I did a quick scan of the episodes. I feel like the movie was definitely the way to go since there were no interruptions. The episodes did have a new OP + ED, with the OP being pretty good. They also had those “next episode” shorts (don’t know what these are called) that I enjoyed.
I’ll watch JJK and Mob Psycho for sure. Seen a lot of anticipation hype over Chainsaw Man, but I’m going to wait until at least the season is complete before watching.
Wait until you watch the Entertainment District arc when it comes to Demon Slayer animation.
To follow up something mentioned earlier: JJK, AOT Final Season and Chainsaw Man are all from Mappa, and bizarrely, Vinland Saga will switch from Wit (currently doing Ranking of Kings and Spy X Family) to Mappa, which is what happened with AOT.
Finished the Entertainment District arc yesterday. Truly amazing fight scene animations and character interactions. Even better than Mugen Train, which I had already been really impressed with.
I can’t think of a recent live action, action movie that I’ve enjoyed as much as watching this arc. I love the extreme level of stylized scenes that can be accomplished with animation.
Really looking forward to S3 now.
I started watching Chainsaw Man. It’s nice to have a main character with a serious, straightforward goal, something the audience can nod their head in empathy, while we put in his shoes.
A movie about musicians?
Description from the original manga.
Production IG will make a scifi tv series next year:
Tbf, that goal is “touching boobies”.
