The Fuhrer is an entirely different character in Brotherhood. Everything about him is different, and he gets a lot more face time.

Yeah, the first anime ended up diverging from the manga plot just before the first really big, important revelation about the Fuhrer. Which may be part of why the Japanese fanbase ultimately wanted something like Brotherhood made, really.
Just watched 15 and 16 and we’re finally well diverged from the original series. Where’d these ninjas come from! I’m kinda apprehensive about where it’s all headed since I loved the original anime so much.
Huh, I actually liked the spoiler in the original.
Well, he’s still a… Maybe you should just be watching Brotherhood.
In the third episode, our hero picks a fight with a little girl.
Not sure if it’s actually good, but so far it’s my favorite new show this season.
That is probably a decent sized spoiler about the Fuhrer.
Oh and Bakemonogatari annoyed me by having two episodes in a row starting with 15 (give or take) straight minutes of back and forth domination’ish conversation where the main character is insulted over and over in every possible way by someone he helped. The conversation is not related to some form of plot or discussion, it is simply just that, she insults him, he replies, repeat. Nothing going on significant to the plot in the background. An amusing touch the first time, a questionable move the second.
I liked their banter and the overall surreality of the show, but it’s not for everyone.
I thought the banter was meant to be an exploration of the characters’ psyche. Basically, a technique to do in one episode the emotional development of five. I don’t think it works particularly well, mind you.
“Don’t spit while you talk. Virginity is contagious.”
“Wha…?! Why would virginity be contageous to females?”
split-second subliminal panel of his thoughts: ‘Wait it’s not contagious to males either’
“And wait, why do you assume I’m a virgin?”
“Don’t spit while you talk. STDs from hookers are contagious.”
LOL!
And actually her demeanor is directly related to her “condition.” She had lost the ability to feel compassion towards anyone or anything because she had given up her feelings and memories to the crab. When she regains them she apologizes to him for all the horrible things she did and said beforehand. This is all explained by Oshino beforehand.
Don’t spoil the Fuhrer for people who haven’t seen Brotherhood’s reveal yet, otherwise I’ll rain holy wrath down upon you!
Scry, her character change doesn’t last past the end of that episode. she is back to her normal… “loving” self in episode 3 as if nothing had happened (well slightly softer, but only because behind all of the insults she seems to have feelings for him, kind of in the same way those extremely spicy hard candies are sweet once 3/4 of them dissolve, burning away all sense of taste in your mouth). It does kind of make episode 2 seem silly when she turns in to a nice girl, says sorry and then the next day, BAM S&M Mistress is back, with a vengeance.

This sounds like a show mostly about catering to tsundere fans. You might want to tune out if you’re not one.
As Koyomi points out, “tundra” might be a better description of her personality: she’s got the tsun down pat, it’s the dere she’s lacking.
And she’s a bit mellower in the third episode than she was in the first two, but clearly the crab isn’t what gave her a sharp tongue and a penchant for riling up Koyomi. Which is good, IMHO - I was half-afraid she’d become another simpering dolt after she was “cured” of her problem.
Ah. I haven’t seen episode 3. That does make it a little weird.
I think the big difference is Hitagi is suspicious of Koyomi’s motives when he offers to help, so she’s openly hostile towards him. [Hard to get much more hostile than sticking a box-cutter and a stapler in someone’s mouth.] But by the end of episode 2, she realizes he’s sincere, so once she regains her emotions, she apologizes for her bad behavior. In episode 3, she comes across to me as playfully snarky, not abusive; our main characters trade a lot of pointed barbs with one another.
Whoops, redacted my comment about the Fuhrer. And here you guys had me thinking that element of the series had been changed!
It has. Just not in the way you think. You are both right and wrong.
Been watching Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop, and season 2 of Star Blazers.
So confession time; I’ve never watched much of Robotech at all. Is that 21 disc Protoculture collection what I want?
