Canaan is pretty good. I am also enjoying Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 this season. My complaint about the first big arc of Spice and Wolf II is really the lack of Horo. She felt like a secondary character.
Nnnaaah, that would be Bakemonogatari. I’d give them a prize just for the title !
While enjoyable, Bakemonogatari lacks real plot or character progression, is very random (based on your tastes, this could be a positive i suppose) and generally tries too hard to be artsy/serious at the same time it is being completely not serious. A good show, but not a great show.
Not to mention Liang Qi is the best character ever.

Those reasons didnt stop people proclaiming Haruhi/Zetsubou/Gintama/Shin Mazinger Z/other crap - best show ever. I dont see the reason to stop now. :P
Eh, whatever, i’m waiting for Nogizaka 2, need my sacharine dose.
I’ve enjoyed Canaan so far, but if I had to pick a favorite this season, it’d probably be either Bakemonogatari or Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 - which are so completely on opposite ends of the anime spectrum that I shouldn’t even mention them in the same sentence. It’s like comparing apples to hand grenades because they’re both round.
My tastes are just weird.
“Does anyone know how to get a taxi off a roof?”
“Listen, in this country, there’s no such thing as a leisurely taxi.”
That taxi driver needs his own spinoff series pronto: “Shanghai CAB!” It would be like Crazy Taxi, but with more karaoke and shootouts.
“You know, when a man’s gotta drive, a man’s gotta drive.”

Another Kuuga project.
Now we only need Agito in decent quality.
Is there something wrong with CAP-BR release? (Other than that the aspect ratio is all screwed up…I fixed it in MPClassic by forcing it to 5:4.)

Video quality rather poor and also stuttering constantly.
There’s a much better raw torrent out there, it just needs subs moved over.
Do you want to try updating codecs? I’d used a recent version of CCCP, on a bottom-of-the-line Pentium Duo with ATI 3850, and I don’t have any stuttering problem at all. Won’t do anything for the quality, though.
The Lain thread here got me think about giving anime a shot again. I was pretty heavy into it about 6-7 years ago. I’ve had several aborted attempts with watching shows over the past few years, just never hold my attention and seem like rehashes of the same old stuff. I did make it through the whole first season of Death Note, really enjoyed that.
A few hours of browsing around on amazon tonight and I now have the box sets for Mushi-ishi and Ergo Proxy on the way. Did I make a horrible mistake? Stuff I’ve enjoyed in the past are Berserk, Evangelion, Lain, Paranoia Agent, GiTS, Samurai X… mostly darker or weird shows.
Claymore!
then I think you’d like Ergo Proxy. <amazon drone>You might also like: Darker Than Black, Claymore, Black Lagoon</amazon drone>
Claymore!
Oh no you dont !
Claymore tried to rip off Berserk, but its such a far throw from it - i dont see how anyone can seriously claim any likeness. Where Claymore is barely mediocre - Berserk is exceptional.
You liked Lain? Okay. You might want to check out Texhnolyze. (A recommendation I don’t make casually, but it’s the same guy behind both. Personally I liked Texhnolyze much better, and it was still very strange and kind of offputting.) Also, Haibane Renmei, though that’s not as dark or aggressively bizarre.
And yes, you’ll probably dig Ergo Proxy.
No. It is true that i don’t think there is much similar in them, but if you like one, you will probably like the other.
They do both have mediocre endings though sadly.

Man, I fucking hate Evangelion.
Thanks for the tips.
How is Shigurui? I see it has a cheap bluray release, sounds like something I might enjoy.

Shigurui was quite a sight. Really stunningly artistic yet perhaps the most brutally gory series I have ever seen.
I don’t think I ever saw it through though that was more because I don’t think any fansub unit carried it tot he end.
