Anonymity, Trump supporters, the right-wing media, and the gman account

Echo chamber!

We must hear from every side of every issue. I’m currently trying to recruit a flat earther so we can “have an important discussion” about that one.

538’s ratings only apply to election poll questions (i.e. which candidate do you intend to vote for? do you intend to vote for or against this referendum?), since they’re the only ones where you can compare the pollster’s estimate to a concrete result.

Ooh I go to San Francisco every now and then, I’ll be sure to send you a message next time I’m there. I am a big fan of Brenda’s Meat & Three, ever been? Apparently it is a former New Orleans chef- SF transplant. But they have a lot of good stuff.

To the extent separations are happening at points of entry because of civil detentions, to people who have not broken any law and where the child is not endangered and has a true relationship with the adult, that would be inhumane and would probably be unconstitutional. How often is it happening? Is there reliable information on this anywhere? Is it official policy or are there some reports of this happening illegally? From Vox:

As I linked earlier, the ACLU had similar complaints about individual instances of poor, illegal treatment of asylum applicants with children during the Obama administration. It seems unrelated to the other policy matters going on, which are new. (Link: ACLU sues Obama administration for detaining asylum seekers as intimidation tactic | American Civil Liberties Union )

Regardless, I think the characterization of “child concentration camps” is irresponsible, as people were executed in concentration camps. They also were not returned to the custody of domestic relatives. In fact, they had to work themselves to death.

Yes it seems that way, based on both polls – There are a lot of people out there who support the administration broadly on illegal immigration, and it’s probably logical to address them like humans and not dismiss them as serial killers.

That’s well put, and I am in no way supporting nazis, or saying there’s never a context in which punching them might be the most just course of action. But I will continue to push back against the sentiment that some ideology is so threatening that we have a blanket justification for reacting with physical violence in all scenarios.

My dissenting view is that nazis should be punched by white girls if possible so they don’t get to cry victimhood.

I’ve done it and regretted it afterwards. You explained your reason why. And I agree.

I never did. I just explained that I’d no longer go to that particular part of your house.

Nor do I. But I can certainly avoid the places that he goes.

Well. That’s your choice. I do not agree with it. At all.

I do not. Your choice though.

I can treat him the way I treat my friend Walter. No politics in our discussions over the phone. Or I hang up.

You do not as it wasn’t your fault.

People like gman1225 are not the kind of people you want to debate because, normally, in a debate, you get two sides in a room, each present their arguments and counterarguments and the aim is for one side to win. Therein lies the problem because these people do not care about winning or losing, they just want to burn down the whole damn building. The alt-right counterculture consists of people who don’t bother with concepts, ideas or ideals, all they care about is shitting on everybody - liberals, democrats, RINOs. This is why Trump gets away with all his stupid shit and why he will continue to get away with it: as long as the “enemy” hates what he does, Trump (and all the other apostles) can, literally, do no wrong. The only thing holding him back right now is his wish for a second term.

Oh and the fire is spreading all over the world. In Romania, the governing (socialist) party has started an assault against the justice system with the aim to end the “tyranny of the Deep State” (yes, it apparently exists there too). Erdogan in Turkey is close to winning his fight against the “Deep State”, the elections are scheduled for today and if he wins (most likely), he will rule by decree indefinitely. Poland and Hungary are heading in the same direction.

If Trump wins a second term, I believe the snowball will be too large to stop so it will certainly break some if not all of the things the West has been building for 70 years. Debating is a waste of time, get involved and start fighting before it’s too late.

Hey look he’s playing victim and added appeal to authority to his deck.

Italy, too.

I appreciate the explanation, and the thought put into this situation by Tom.

Can we now close the loophole… lock the thread?

Whatever, totally not TPM Josh Marshall! The genius of what Tom did is to isolate the pathogen to this one active thread. Let the cancer feast as much as it wants. Threads, at least, can be muted.

I’ll summarise gman’s argument for y’all: don’t call racists racists because reasons.

He’s a despicable human being despite his insistence no such person exists.

Persecuting the Roma was one of the first things we saw during the rise of fascists in Europe in the 30s.

They would’ve died when Krypton exploded, and Superman would have an easier life? Checkmate…

Pretty sure “been played” is more accurately “continues to be played”

I don’t think I ever quite said that, but the amount of negativity here remains pretty stunning. It’s too bad more people didn’t use this thread as an opportunity to reflect on either their own tendency for nastiness, or their own strong desires to seek out echo chambers to reinforce their views. Perhaps the gulf between many Trump “supporters” (loose language) and some posters here isn’t actually that great.

No one lied to anyone, unless you’re lying to me right now by not telling me your employer. It’s remarkable that people here are so blinded by rage they continue to make incoherent points in an effort to slander someone they disagree with. Were you the poster who called a family member an asshole at dinner just for knowing they support Trump? Remarkable reflection on you, if so. That would explain why some conservatives don’t feel the need to disclose their employers or views, by the way: harassment like that.

This thread is seeming more and more like a reward for gman instead of a punishment.

Who said the point of the thread was punishment? I voluntarily left the other threads in this forum, and this thread is explicitly about why. The constant harassment evident in this thread is not a good reflection on the posters here.

Hmm, he seems to believe I’m talking to him, not about him.

Annnd we’ve hit 2nd grade levels of maturity. :/
