Another "How do I do this on my iPhone" question

I have a bazillion photos on my iPhone. I don’t necessarily want my mother or daughters to see every photo on my phone as I flip through them while with them to show them the pics of their mother and I in Italy or the M1A1 tank that I was behind on the drive home, etc. It’s not porn I’m hiding from them ( not that it would matter) but I would like to have my public photos on my phone in Photos and others I choose to keep private somewhere else that is protected but as easy to browse as Photos. Google Photos does not work for this, I tried.

What’s the best way to do this?

Separate your pics into albums?

I guess I could do that but it would still let my grandkids, say, open those and then say “Papa, what’s this old photo of you and Grandma with the funnel in your mouth and someone pouring beer into it?” ;)

You can “hide” photos.

By clicking on the up arrow you can get this menu

To view them later there is a “hidden” album that you can browse through.

There are maybe a few other ways to do this too. If you are concerned with photos that you’ve saved off the internet, you can instead maybe save them to your files instead of to photos.

Ah, never saw that option, thanks. That keeps people from seeing dumb photos as I flip through them to show them the lab results photos, for example, and a grandkid (e.g.) probably won’t go to albums and find the hidden album and then open it with me sitting next to them.

I was hoping I could just use iDrive, which I use for backup, but it is backup and not separate offline storage, as fas as I can tell, i.e. if I delete something from the phone it automatically deletes it from the backup files.

Not sure if this is what you want, but maybe?

I was going to suggest Peek-a-View as well, but adding photos to an album or a shared album would also work.

Count me as a third vote for “I don’t know if it’s exactly what you want but I thought of Peek-a-view”.

Downloaded Peek-a-view but can’t figure it out. All it appears to do is open my photos and let me view them. I don’t see any function at all to mark, hide, etc. What am I missing?

It’s not as smooth as it could be. Basically, you use the photos app to choose the photos you want to show someone by putting them in an album. Then you use Peek-a-View to show someone that album in read-only mode. If you enable guided access, you can also prevent them from escaping out of viewing that album into the rest of Peek-a-view or any other app.
