I guess i am super-boring, but if they make a mode that is similar to the ME3 and MEA horde modes, with a better structured progression and loot-system, I’d play a lot of it. I really enjoyed the gameplay in Anthem, but the rest just didn’t grab me.
For me they’d need to use their lovely world more.
This is basically what I said they should have done like two weeks after the game came out, except I also said they should basically offer full refunds to any buyers to that point. Put out a statement from Bioware acknowledging that the game did not live up to their expectations for quality etc., and that you are taking this unprecedented step to make it right.
Go dark until E3 2020, at which point you unveil Anthem 2.0 - just explain what changes are being made, and issue another mea culpa about the state of the game. Say you’re taking all the time you need to make sure 2.0 meets the promise fans originally had for the game. Release will come when it’s ready.
If EA are smart, they would have given Bioware all the time and resources they need at that point, understanding that Bioware’s credibility as a studio, and Anthem’s credibility as a big new IP for them to build on with sequels, hangs in the balance. Bring in the media for a story about “Bioware’s unprecedented attempt to gain redemption for Anthem” or whatever, to get gamers back on their side.
They can still do most of this, but after like 9 months of people losing interest and quitting, and the media dragging the game through the mud (deservedly), 'Anthem 2.0" is going to have to be a REALLY GOOD overhaul for people to give it the time of day. And even then, the damage may simply be done.
There’s also the lingering question of whether the necessary overhaul can really be completed with the bones of that game. I note that the statement does mention this will be a serious structural overhaul to the game, but that will only go so far until you’re basically just making a brand new game, which is not likely to be something EA will throw money at. The clock is also ticking on both the next generation, and huge games coming in the first half of next year.
If it’s just some structural interface changes, and them changing Fort Tarsis to be seamlessly part of the open world, then count me out. Good changes, but much too little, and far too late.
Such a shame, because the core gameplay was tremendous fun.
That is a very good summation of what would make Anthem into Anthem, but it is also very logical and decisive. These are not words I associate with recent Bioware or longer term EA behavior. If there is a decision maker higher up in the process that can make this happen then yes I think they could have an even bigger comeback story than NMS more along the lines of Final Fantasy 14 actually.
You could see something really amazing just under the surface with Anthem had it had a little more time to bake in the oven. I hope your vision becomes reality because I wanted to play the game I saw it could be quite a bit.

a month after my year of ea origin premier ended my hate hate relationship with anthem ea reactivated a “free” month of basic access for having 2fa today.

aaaah, so that’s what it is. Freebie. I just got an email from EA saying I have a month of EA access. I double checked that it is really from EA. Next I thought my Origin account must have been hacked because I haven’t touched Origin for months, and then went on to check nothing is hacked.

Too bad it wasn’t premiere so I could play the respawn game.
Wonder if this could have just been done as a fun single player game. Let Bioware do what their history shows they’re best at. Not forcing them into the “Games as a service” realm.

It would have been ideal as a Mass Effect/KOTOR/Outer Worlds type game with some radiant/procedural repeat quests. But no, they had to fuck it all up.
Ha! Because I had the “deluxe” Legion of Dawn on Premiere Access before, even though it’s now on Basic tier the game is unavailable to me, replaced/overwritten by the orphaned LOD version. Only way to get it to appear is just keyword search for Anthem, where it shows as a separate SKU and is downloadable but never visible in the main library or Favorites. Origin, you buggy ass slow shite.
Man, I’d forgotten how slow and ponderous Origin was since I never see it in replaying highly-modded Mass Effects. Every click or interaction takes tens of seconds.
I think you love hating on Anthem more than I’ve loved playing any game ever.
Have Bioware said anything about Anthem in a few months now?
Boring conversation anyway.
Yeah, there’s a new event happening.
