Yup. It’s all bad. At the end of our mission last night I got booted with a disconnect error and wasn’t sure I’d get the XP and loot from the mission. Thankfully when I was able to get back in it did show the XP I earned and I’m pretty sure the loot was logged too but I really shouldn’t have to worry about that being an issue at their point. So in almost an hour of game time we were able to run one 20 min mission, I spent the rest of the time on disconnect errors.

I’ve had that happen at least a half dozen times. Thankfully, you do retain the loot and experience.

The new thing seems to be coins not properly being tabulated…saw some random tweet from a dev about it, saying not to worry! It was a bug! The proper coin balance has been backed up on the servers!

How is that a thing?

If the big upfront things are this broken, what are dedicated players going to uncover in the coming weeks?

Yeah I just have serious doubts every terrible bug gets discovered and/or fixed before either EA pulls support or too many people just give up and walk away.

The post-mortem on this is going to be brutal and fascinating.

Thanks for the suggestion and I think that has worked for some folks. I’m far too old/jadedto jump through hoops anymore :) so I think I’ll just wait for the fix and focus on my considerable backlog. This bug seems to rear its head any time a new Javelin can be chosen so for some it happens when they are choosing their last one.

Yeah, I don’t blame you, just wanted to put it out there.

@Scott_Dobros it was because coins were not awarded immediately upon the end of the alliance week.

I just loooove losing all my progress and unidentified loot to “server has shutdown” and/or sudden connection to ea server lost.

In most cases it should still be there if you go into another expedition then end it normally.

Has this actually happened to you? I only ask because the one time I got disconnected on on mission end I still got my xp and loot when I logged back in. I’m worried if it happens again that won’t be the case though.

I think they are restricted to PC. Just a hunch, but it seems like it.

From the front page review:

This is Anthem. It’s super-suit barrel rolls, jet-assisted power punches, and raining fire from the sky. It’s exploring the ruins of a long-dead precursor race that created the world with a song. It’s sniping, machine gunning, and shotgunning your way through overwhelming odds. It’s bum-rushing bad guys while slamming them into a bulwark of steel. It’s holding the line against hordes of merciless enemies. It’s standing up and protecting a civilization on the brink. It’s BioWare taking the lessons learned in Mass Effect and applying them to a wholly original and exciting world. It’s a triumphant chorus.

My impression is that it runs much, much better on the consoles. In about 10 hours post day 1 patch, I’ve only had one end of mission crash/bounce to login screen on the xBox One X, and all my stuff registered, so all I lost was a minute or so at most.

I’m having a blast with this so far, and it’s torn me away from the backlog.

I’d say wait if you want to play on PC, but if you want console (and on a 4k TV with surround sound, it’s pretty damn fine couch gaming), go for it. Or wait. Depending on friends playing too.

I just finished the main storyline, with some side missions left to do, and i don’t believe I encountered any bugs or crashes this far in the PS4

I’m on a PS4 and as I documented above I’ve spent roughly half my time with the game fighting disconnect errors. To be fair, when I’m actually in the game I haven’t seen many bugs or serious issues.

Where are you playing from, generally? I’m wondering if it has to do with regional senses from EA or something. I haven’t had any connection issues since the first beta week.

Yes, constantly. 3/5 times I tried Tyrant Mine and 3/5 times I tried “free” play and it’s frustrating. I’m not hating on Bioware/Anthem just for the sake of hating it like I do with FO76 or GFWL–I really root for the local studio and had friends who worked there.

On the successful runs I ended up getting more whites/greens than the ones where I lost a bunch of blues. I got disconnected at Tyrant Mine boss twice too.

Christ this game is riddled with bugs. Here was a sequence I enjoyed last night, while trying “Quick Match”:

  • Sit through long load
  • Get put into mission with broken event trigger, so we can’t progress
  • Sit through load
  • Sit through another long connection load
  • Get put in mission with bug where it spawned me outside of a wall enclosing the mission area, so I couldn’t do anything but stand there or leave.
  • Sit through the aforementioned two loads again
  • Get placed in a DIFFERENT mission with a broken event trigger
  • Two loads again
  • Get placed in a mission that ended as I was loading in
  • Game kicks me out to title screen in the process

Super fun. About 20 minutes of loading screens, for zero actual progress.

I like Anthem’s gameplay, but man is this game a mess that seems to want you to hate it, in virtually every other respect. I’m more convinced than ever, that this game needed another full year of development. A few months is good for polishing and optimization (two issues the game absolutely has), but this game feels outright unfinished in weird ways; like Bioware were just told to “ship it” at some point, so they cut off content creation and just tried to box up what they had made, and turn it into a coherent package.

Until they patch it or publicly acknowledge the problem, I would totally avoid quickplay. Every time I’ve tried it over the past three days the mission progress was stuck, and I had to exit the expedition.

New bug for me last night: my pilot level was reset to level 1. Didn’t see that one coming! Thankfully, once I entered and then exited my javelin, my level went back up to 30. But seriously, WTF.

Pc or console?

Oh, I did see this at one point, I had forgotten. I think it’s the only bug I’ve really encountered since release.

It seemed more like a total de-sync from the server, rather than actually resetting anything, since when it happened I didn’t seem to be able to do anything in the game at all. As you say, I reconnected and it seemed to fix everything.

It’s because the mission is bugged, the players start to bail, but as soon as they do it opens up slots in the expedition, and Quick Match is all about filling them ASAP! So it sends new players in. And then those players bail, which opens up slots in the expedition! Don’t worry, Quick Match is here to save the day and send in replacement players!

It’s downright Sisyphean.
