Hey, can anyone give me a quick tutorial on using Homing Soul Arrow? I can’t seem to get it to fire.
It is very important to experiment with the thief ring here, especially for melee builds. In my experience, it gives you just enough time to off the archers and get ready to strafe around the blue knight. It’s sort of a sprint out of the fire, a yog up to the archers to get your stamina back, and then kill kill kill dodge BLUEKNIGHTPARTYTIME. The thief ring should also protect you from the overhead archers, so long as you don’t engage directly or linger.
That’s strange, I don’t recall doing anything other than holding down the light attack with the wand and being around opponents that I target and it destroys. Sometimes, the targeting seems optional so I guess I’m doing it wrong.

It fires once you are locked on, and get in range of the spell. Normally, you cast it, and leave it up around you (it lasts awhile) then move near an enemy, and select them. It should shoot off after that.

I have often seen it automatically shooting out of range and doing no damage. I needed to cast it pretty close to the enemy to hit him. I think I was even locked on to the enemy. So it seems the effective range of the spell is shorter than the lock-on range.

This is correct. a better way to do it would be to not lock onto the enemy until you are fairly certain they are in range, and not going to dodge.

Yes, reaction time on everything is a little slower with the thief ring. I should try that approach and see how fast BK triggers without it just to compare. At the moment, I haven’t found anything better to wear anyway.
The thief ring should also protect you from the overhead archers, so long as you don’t engage directly or linger.
It doesn’t, because you’re generally sprinting out of the fire and full tilt into the 3 archers at the bottom so you can whack them before BK shows up. At least, this is what works for me everytime now.
Anyway, Tower Knight down, the melee way. After I got over him being so HUGE, I figured out a way to keep dancing around his feet when he shield slams. Once down, my two-hand +3 dagger took off about 2/3 of his health, so that was a pleasant surprise. Repeat once, done. Good fight.
Of course there’s a message right past him that says I should be soul level 80 to proceed. So I’ve started 2.1 instead and man, those things are really dagger-resistant. I thought they just had a lot of HP, but I switched to my mailbreaker once by accident and it does about 10x the damage.
Am I missing a hidden stat? Dagger attack is 85; mailbreaker 80. I see no particular bonuses or special effects. Why the huge difference in damage?
There are damage “types.” Monsters are resistant to different types. Swords are slashing, generally, maces/hammers are crushing or something, daggers, rapiers and spears are piercing. Presumably the 2-1 monsters are resistant to piercing but weak to crushing.
Daggers are both slashing and piercing. The regular attacks are slashes while ripostes, backstabs and strong attacks are piercing. Rapiers are only piercing I think.

If you have the thief ring you can actually sneak up and backstab most of them with your dagger.

Oh, I just assumed some of them weren’t all that alert, specifically the ones in 2.1 that are still mining.
The regular dudes in 1-1 see me just fine with the ring on.
In conclusion, I think I have to experiment more with it.
stuck on flame lurker in NG+… Can’t get him past 1/4 health before I die.
I’m stuck there on my first play through. I’ve been going to other *-1 zones to pick up items, upgrades and farm but my Thief with his awesome backstabbing but crap armour isn’t so good against enemies that hit like a truck that I can’t backstab.
Summon some Blue Souls, he’ll drop like a stone. If you have a decent magic stat use Soul Ray, Flame Lurker is pretty weak to magic attacks.
Kite him around obstacles on the sides of the level. I solo’d him NG+ doing that.

You might also want to grab the purple flame shield from 1.1 and a fire protect ring when you go in there. these help a lot. This guy is pretty tough for melee if you don’t have some decent fire protection.
Yeah, ith a PFS you can actually just take the hit as long as your stamina holds. That’s what I use anyway.
I have PFS and soul ray, the problem is, my magic stats are still relatively low, so damage output is low, and magic bank is pretty low as well. I can tank his attacks with the PFS but stamina doesn’t hold as long as I need it to, and eventually the leak through the shield puts me in serious danger zones. Just judging by my abilities now, once he get’s into higher aggression I can’t see any chance of finishing him off. I’m using the demonbrandt with pure white tendency, which has a pretty good damage output, problem is still my stamina, swinging it uses a lot, and doesn’t leave me enough to block through his attacks. I never see blue soul signs by the fog to fight him, so I haven’t been able to get any help.
It’s weird, he was easy in the first playthrough with the demonbrandt, dropped him really fast. This time around, I don’t have enough health or stamina buffer to stay alive, and I’ll be out of healing items to even attempt fighting him soon… :C
On another note, I’ve been considering trying a dual guillotine axe build for pvp. Max crushing upgrades on the right hand and maybe max mercury, or bleed upgrades on the left, so I don’t need a baby’s nail. Then maybe a spiked shield, and an upgraded epee rapier or blind? Are the axes any good for PVP?
What soul level are you Alex? I’m around 140, and if we are close enough I will jump in and give you a hand with Flame Lurker sometime.

I can’t find Demon’s Souls ANYWHERE, physically. I’ve been considering getting a PS3, but if I do I’m gonna want a copy of that game to go with it. Any tips? Am I gonna have to order it separately?
Try Amazon, I’m sure they still have copies available.
