This already has me swearing like a 13 year old Call of Duty player. It’s definitely a Souls game.

…and we’re farming!

I take back all those mean things I said about blood vial farming. At least it was quick and relaxing.

So far I think I really like the Nexus setup. It’s like a game-wide application of the best part of a Souls game: reaching the next bonfire and then exploring out from it like a hub. I can dip into each world until I meet too much resistance, or push ahead in one world and feel like I’m somewhere I shouldn’t be. I just defeated the 2-2 boss (laughably easy with Soul Arrow) and ran into a 100-foot-tall roadblock. Time for somewhere else!

Magic, and Soul Arrow in particular = definitely overpowered in the first Souls game.

You should be able to, just plug the DS4 into the PS3 via the USB cable. It works with many, but not all PS3 games.

Oh cool. Google says wireless works too as of about a year ago.

But no rumble! My hands are cramping so much I guess I’ll have to live without it.

I fell into a bottomless pit in Tower of Latria. I ran back down to leave a warning message and continued to explore.

Then I fell into the same bottomless pit from the other side.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU

Any particularly unique or interesting weapons in this game for a Souls veteran? I’m at a loss for what to focus on. I’ve just been pumping endurance. Finished 7 maps so far.

The Maneater boss might be From at its absolute lowest.

Two enemies
Bottomless pits on either side
Useless camera
Horrible AI that moves around aimlessly and doesn’t let me attack
Insanely long boss run with an enemy that kills me half the time

I want to smash Miyazaki’s face. I can’t believe elitists try to lecture me about the failings of Dark Souls II when there’s this trash in Demon’s Souls.

There’s a learning curve to that one, for sure, but it’s more predictable than you might think. Use the brazier in the middle and a good shield (dodging is a bad idea in that environment) and magic.

I just came back later powered up and breezed through it.

4-2 was also another low point. Just awful. And it sucks how they did crystal lizards in this one. I never got a pure darkmoonstone for my kilij. Pretty lame.

But other than that, everything has been well-balanced, and the game is a real treat overall. It’s more excellent Souls content to explore. I can tell why people insist this is their favorite game in the series. There are some really impressive moments, such as the super bosses and the huge levels. There’s a nice sense of scale and a couple great characters. (All is forgiven, Patches.)

One funny thing is seeing so many ideas that were reused in the Dark Souls games. It actually takes away a bit of the magic from the sequels.

Anyway, it looks like I’m just about done. I didn’t realize each run takes less than 25 hours. I guess people are expected to play NG+. I will check it out but I don’t have time for a full run. I’d prefer to start over anyway with an offline character to check out the world tendency stuff.

Maybe I’ll hold out for a PS4 remake. :)

The world tendency stuff is pretty cool and worth seeing likely, as are the NPC invaders, since you’re such a fan of the series. But if you’re like me you’ve prob spent enough time doing stuff like that.

The worst thing about this game is farming for slabs in 4-2 to get 100%. That one that took something crazy like 30 hours to drop and probably 700 tries. It became something I would take a few cracks at after coming home from boozing.

I liked 4-2 a lot though, at least until the 1200th time.

Are you talking about farming the same slab as me, pure darkmoonstone? I searched Google and saw there is a save/reload trick. Is that what you did for 30 hours or did you beat the game each time? Either way that’s crazy. I got pure moonstone for my Mirdan Hammer, so I’m happy about that. That thing shreds armored enemies. They really emphasized the power of blunt weapons breaking shields in this game. Its halberd moveset is terrible compared to the sequels though.

I didn’t realize I can affect world tendency by myself during a single session. That must have been why I finally nailed pure white in world 1 after I killed one of the dragons. (That was a grind, but it only took 10 minutes.) I got to see the gate open and confront Miralda. So at least I got to see one unique thing. Not sure I have the time to do the rest. We’ll see if I get hooked by NG+.

I beat the game and then beat my first invader. It was in NG+ 1-1. I assume people like to target that area since a lot of players are floating souls at that point. (I wasn’t because I checked the wiki and made sure to spend them all before the endgame.)

It was a little laggy and he healed 4-5 times. I was just spamming Kilij R1 attacks with the usual mix of dodges to keep him on his toes. When he moved away to heal for the final time, I shot him with Soul Ray. Hah. Anyway, I’m glad I got that off my bucket list.

I’ll play a few levels in NG+ but I realized there are a lot of worlds I don’t want to run through again at all. Like all of Valley of Defilement and most of Shrine of Storms. Except I need that crystal lizard. I might not even bother with Tower of Latria, which was cool the first time.

FWIW, I decided to try world 4 one more time in NG+ to see if I got a pure darkmoonstone. I did, so I played the rest of the run. This time I made sure to get all the special white world tendency events. But overall it confirmed my suspicions: most levels and bosses just aren’t very fun.

Still definitely worth playing for Souls buffs.

I think that DS3 looks like a shiny Demons’ Souls. I’d love a remake with the new goodies and less finicky world tendency nonsense.

Probably not in the cards, but a man can dream.

Demon’s Souls is my favorite of the series. I’d love to see a sequel or for DS3 to go more that way

It’s a piece of pure bladestone that’s almost impossible to get. Even with black world tendency and maximum discovery, there is an extremely small chance of it dropping and it can’t be found within the game. It was basically running the circuit from the level start to killing the few critters capable of dropping it and then dying as quickly as possible to try again. Yep, definitely the craziest thing I’ve ever done in a game for completionists sake.

Ah gotcha, I did some more Googling about it. Glad I didn’t feel compelled. I think I’m on my friend’s old PSN account anyway. Should’ve logged into the one I have for the PS4 to preserve my cheevos!

fired it up yesterday, just wanted to check the intro and I played 3 hours straight! So good… never finished it when it came out, but this time I know how to play it thanks to Dark Souls experience… I was totally shocked, there are no bonfires! In 1-1 I died maybe 3 times, always went back and made sure to pick up my souls… I thought I could kill the tutorial boss this time, he killed me with one strike… bummer ;) Phalanx wasn’t that hard, strange that they put a version of Phalanx in Dark Souls (Painted World)… also I was surprised, is this game still online?? A lot of blood stains, messages everywhere… I thought Atlus shut down the servers, maybe they are back, but why? They do not make money with it… maybe Demon’s Souls 2 could be a thing…?
