It’s not how they did it last time… uh, depending on the region!
Yeah, I hope they give the fans a break. Most potential buyers won’t even have a PS5 by the time the game comes out.

I loved Demon Souls, and it is also my only Platinum trophy on PS3… but I’m really worried that my vision of Demon’s Souls through my hefty rose tinted spec will be tainted by the remake. The Dark Souls and Bloodborne projects have taken the genre to a new place…

My impression is that the whole creative vision of the remake is to actualize your rose-tinted memories.
Isn’t World Tendency dead in the PS3 version though? If you want to play this game the “right” way this will be the only way to do it.

World tendency doesn’t strictly rely on multiplayer to work, although it’s very helpful. There’s also a fan server you can connect to for Demon’s Souls multiplayer, and they run world tendency events. I expect that will mostly wither away when this comes out.
It was always harder keeping pure dark tendency because the servers would always push you off of it. Getting pure white and keeping it was much easier provided you killed yourself in the sanctuary after every boss because IIRC the servers never lowered your tendency unless it was a special event. It would only increase your tendency, eventually resetting it to some sort of base average amount if it was lower/pure black.
I remember trying to farm black phantom skeleton warriors in 4-2 in pure black tendency for massive XP on NG+ using the soul sucker ability you get after beating the game. The next day my tendency would reset and I would have to die a bunch of times in human form to get back to pure black.
Isn’t pure black tendency the easiest? Just restore your body, commit suicide in that world, rinse, repeat until full black.
I remember playing offline if I didn’t want another player messing it up.

Well, restoring your body means either killing a boss or using a stone of ephemeral eyes, of which there are a limited amount lying around.
The only way to avoid server fuckery in terms of tendency was to play offline. Then you will have full control if you know the mechanics. But this mostly applies and benefits only maintaining black tendency. Not white.
Like I said the server shifted your tendency up towards a baseline if it was low. Getting pure white while online is simple. Never play in human form. Suicide in the sanctuary after bosses. Pure white is all but guaranteed, and it will be maintained, because the server never lowers your tendency (unlike pure black)
Generally, every player should always go full white first. Because your tendency only goes up by killing bosses, black phantoms, among other finite events. If you only play in soul form you will get full white in all zones easily just by playing casually.
Pure black tendency is later, when you have the resources to rez in human form and die over and over to lower it down. You won’t maintain it though if you are online.
Character creation that doesn’t make people that look like crap?
That’s how you know it wasn’t made by From. Amateurs.

Out of nowhere this state of play vid appears!
The very first choice in the game comes up and I’m like: what’s “body type A” and “body type B”?
I suppose that’s how you say male or female now?

That is their attempt to avoid being excoriated on Twitter.
The valley of defilement footage looked a lot different from what I remember. Maybe due to increased draw distance?

I think it looks exactly the same (with more greebles, obviously) except for the fact that it’s apparently entirely in a cave, which I certainly don’t remember and is probably, like you said, due to increased draw distance.
They’re also saying they added a lot of new sounds. The dirty colossus now shrieks and creaks (like wood). I guess that’s nice? Oddly enough, you don’t hear the flies much, which was basically its main sound in the original.

Man, I’ll bet the outdoor bit in the Tower of Latria looks amazing, now.
Yeah, that stood out to me too. I suppose it also looked more well lit instead of being dark and murky.

Should have been called Cavern of Defilement (or Rotten Cavern, I guess, in Japanese).
