Not sure if that counts as a spoiler, but the new trophy list has been revealed:
They removed all of the item forging trophies and mostly replaced them with trick boss fight requirements
They removed the most annoying trophy (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

why are they so ugly?? Like taken from a spread sheet…
The original looks perfect

Also, some important sounds were changed, they sound less important now, like collecting souls sound.
And the intro trailer is nothing compared to the original.
The core game is still there, so no more complaining. PS5 is still spring 2021 for me.
I agree that those are very western changes. One thing you notice if you watch a bunch of Japanese developer interviews is how they are often very exacting with every part of the game including and often especially within the interface. Everything has flair and function.
What you’ve pointed out there is typical of western games where they pay far less attention to the flair and only care about function. With all the additional screen real estate now, the original design would look even better. Instead it’s as you say, spreadsheet reimagining.
Ugh. That’s a terrible change. I also don’t like the new font in which they display “You Died”. It’s too plain.
That UI looks like programmer art.
Yeah. It’s likely that this was very rushed to make launch during a pandemic.

Don’t insult motel art by putting it in the same class as programmer art.
Although programmer art can be so bad it is, in my opinion, good in its way, a la Dream Quest. I’d hang that stuff in my motel.
Looks like your typical flat web design style. It’s still a legitimate trend we’re in. I’m sure someone spent time thinking about the design. It just doesn’t look good or match the rest of the game.
Aaaah, that’s funny, because I watched Vaatividya’s first hour with the game on Twitch and I was wondering if the menus and UI were ugly or if I was just complaining for nothing. BTW, he had to pause the whole stream because his son hit his mom in the eye with a toy truck. That’s youtubers getting older for you!
In the same vein, he made a big burly Templar and chose “body type A” by mistake and his character had the constipated walk of someone running with the wrong skeleton. He had to redo the whole character creation.
Also, the menu puts your character in a dark void with a third of the screen being an image of the highlighted item. It’s good for fashion souls, but it seems excessive, IMO. Worse, you can’t see the world around you and Vaatividya got creamed by an enemy thinking the menu now paused the game (it doesn’t).
That’s like two major menu design fails in an hour. Sounds to me like Bluepoint aren’t ready to redo other people’s menus and UI. The new graphics are nice, but I’m not really hard to please for that kind of thing, so meh.

Bloodborne was also “flat” however it looks somehow better. Not sure why. There are some small details like the white square at the end of the bar…
The colors are not basic RGB 255,0,0 etc … in the demon’s souls screenshot it looks like they used the most basic RGB color code.
I think it’s probably in line with the discussion above. That Bloodborne UI had an actual artist take his time on it. This Demon’s Souls one was probably not a skilled artist.

sure, I don’t understand it. It is their flagship title. They could fix it (easily, I would guess) … I bet they have a lot artists at bluepoint now that the game launched…
Certainly possible to see it get a patch with those sorts of changes, especially if it was a bit rushed. It’s not 2009 anymore.
Yeah, OK, that UI in the remake looks bloody awful.
They have to know well how what they are remaking versus the original. So how the hell does this happen?
People also seem to be criticizing some of the character designs in the remake. Not sure how widespread the sentiment is. Hopefully it’s not too much of a backlash.
